Someone recently asked me about my dashcam history and it got me thinking about when dashcams became available.
My first 'dashcam' was a short-term failed attempt at using my smartphone to record continuous video. Either with the native camera app, or an android dashcam app, the HTC One X overheated and shut down within a few minutes of recording video whilst mounted on the windshield.
My first real dashcam was the Winycam V300HD that I bought 2012, a Korean dashcam sold in the UK by iPixi, also known as the LiVue LB100. It recorded HD 720p video at a maximum bitrate of 8Mbps and had an operating temperature range of -5℃ / +55℃.
I remember that the mounting bracket caused lots of vibration which triggered the g-sensor on any uneven surface. I didn't like the conspicuous red lens barrel so I painted it black.
After 9 months I gave it away and bought a Full HD camera in July 2013 - the 'new' Mobius 1 action camera - and I joined DCT at the same time.
