Will the Dashcam Pro operate without a battery?

Hi all,
I bought one of these cheap Dashcam pros (as seen on TV), second hand. It's the model with rows of 3 lights on either side of the lens and a mini B usb connector, so it's an older version, which did not come with battery. The problem is that when I plug it in the screen comes on very bright and blank, no image. Does this thing require a battery in order to show the image?
Any help is appreciated.

It's hard to advise if you don't know the manufacturer or model. Perhaps an enquiry or a complaint to the seller would be in order

Hi Jarda,
Sorry for not getting back to you before now. I often don't recieve notifications of posts.
It just says DashCam pro on a label outside; so short of opening it, which I'm loathe to do,
I don't know who makes it or what model it is. It will fire up when connected to a power source,
but all it shows is a bright blank screen.
