Hello Community,

Is it worth getting a Bluetooth remote like the BTR200 for the dashcam?

Thanks!

Hello Community,

My immediate answer is Yes.

I have used it often.

Some other brand dashcams still make you reach up to the unit to trigger the emergency record! - so last century lol
With Viofo you can also tell it to Lock the Video with your voice which is also very neat.

However it depends on how you want to use your dashcam.

I like the idea of being able to trigger the emergency recording without it being obvious.

The BTR200 also has some great extra features that allow you the ability to turn on and off other features again without being obvious.

When i have had one i have used it, but i dont mind leaning forward to press the on camera event button.

So for me not a must have.

How often would the dashcam get falsely triggered by the radio or a conversation in the car?

I have seen the occasional false trigger on voice enabled systems, but quite rare, less frequent than G-sensor would set off events due to potholes / poor roads.
Some times i have talked gibberish to try and trigger a voice event, but that have not worked for me, other me laughing at myself CUZ i am easy able to do that.

I've seen mine recognise "Turn off screen" or "Show Front/Rear Camera" something like that (While the screen was off) from just idling with no music.

This could be because I had earlier firmware.

I also had to " tune " voice sensitivity for the camera ( vantrue ) to understand me more often than not, even if i think my English are pretty good.
So i have tried Muppet Show Swedish cook English - Dutch accent English and what not, but mostly it was more for my personal entertainment than the camera responding.

I remember getting my Samsung galaxy 2 phone, and dictating TXT messages, and then often bloody near crash laughing when the phone read back what it wanted to send.
So VTT ( Voice To Text ) is not something i use a lot, though it have gotten way better.

Depends on how often you swear, it appears to have difficulty deciding if you are swearing at another driver, which would be a valid trigger, or swearing at your passenger which would be a false trigger, so it locks the files anyway. It will also lock the video if the person on the other end of the hands free phone call swears!

I like the bluetooth button, much nicer and safer to use than the camera buttons, but I don't use it very often. Also, it doesn't affect the video, while voice commands get recorded and using the dashcam buttons make the image move a bit and record a click. The remote button leaves a clean video, except for the voice confirmation, which can be turned off if you really want a clean video.

LOL

You just reminded me of iPhone and Siri. When replying to a message/txt it can really alter what I was trying to say lol.
I have got some great laughs from Siri. (And frustrated other times)

In my case not often, but I don't have passengers often.

The radio rarely triggers the Viofo Dashcams but it does happen.

If you have music or radio voice going it will find it difficult in hearing you.

I listen to a lot of radio talk shows and my A229 Pro, on earlier firmware releases, would trigger some kind of event almost daily. On later firmware releases it calmed down quite a bit to where I seldom get a false event trigger by voice command from the radio.

If someone is one of these drivers that is compelled to blow the horn at every thing on the road, then muscle memory will have to be retrained to push the bluetooth button. 🙂 In an emergency situation I am using both hands to control the car, so I prefer the voice command to lock the video. From that perspective, the BT module will not work for me.

The voice commands should include a horn sound to lock the video, just like it does for the 'F' word...
