Hyundai MnSoft R700

Hyundai MnSoft R700

The Hyundai MnSoft R700 is a premium Korean dashboard camera that was released in late 2012.  Hyundai MnSoft is the “vehicle infotainment” company of Hyundai Motor Group.  This camera has very good picture quality during the day and good picture quality at night.  It records 1080p at 30f/s with an average bit rate of approximately 13,000kpbs.  Video segments are recorded in 1 minute segments.  The camera has a G-sensor but does not come with GPS.

We have not been able to confirm what processor this camera is using  but apparently it is using the Sony Exmor IMX122LQJ CMOS sensor.

We would like to thank our member Mtz  who provided the original review for this dashboard camera and has made a video review as well.

Known problems

Due to the high price tag and associated issues, this camera has not become popular as a dash cam.  Hence very few problems have been reported.

Joining Clips

Apparently the framerate is different (approximately 30fps) and audio sampling rate (approximately 8000Hz) for every clip.  If you try joining the AVI segments in direct stream copy using VirtualDub or MKV Merge, the process will not work.  You will need to convert the FPS (to 30FPS) and audio sampling rate if you would like to join with these tools.

Picture not Sharp

There has been a report that over time the video gets lets sharp and is not as clear.  We haven’t heard this from many users so it might be an isolated incident.

PC Viewer

The PC configuration tool offers some interesting settings:

  • Artificial Intelligence Auto-Exposure:  should make license plates easier to capture during the night
  • Fog Perception:  improves performance in foggy conditions
  • Noise Removal
  • Brightness Improvement

Should I Purchase?

While the video quality is good and the small size is not too big, the over $200 price is a bit steep for a non-GPS camera.  If you are looking for a “brand name” camera, you may want to consider the R700.
