The Pruveeo D30H is a dual channel dash cam released in Apr 2019 by the Chinese manufacturer Pruveeo. This low priced rideshare dash cam is popular on Amazon and has many positive reviews. Note that the D30H is a generic Chinese model that is sold under numerous other names such as RangeTour, JLTART and VEHEMO.
The D30H uses a Novatek NT96660 processor. Both the front and interior cameras use Sony Exmor IMX323 CMOS sensors. These are decent components and can be found in many other popular dash cams.
While the D30H hardware specs are decent, video quality is not the greatest. The front camera records 1080p video at 30fps with a bitrate of 10 Mbps for the front camera. Video quality during the day is above average and night quality is below average.
The interior camera records 1080p video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 8 Mbps. The video during the day is average but many people complain of a pinkish / purplish color for the interior videos. At night, the cabin is illuminated with 4 LED lights and the video is acceptable. Check different positions when installing to ensure you can get clear views of the rear seat passengers.
The camera has a 2″ screen, g-sensor but does not have GPS (note that some of the other D30H brands offer GPS optional). One interesting feature missing from this camera is a lock file / emergency button. The only way to lock a file (prevent it from being deleted) is for the g-sensor to trigger and automatically lock the file.
The D30H camera comes with WiFi and the Tima Cam app can be used to connect with the camera. As this is a generic camera, we didn’t expect this app to be good but surprisingly it as an ok ranking on the Google Play store when compared with other dash cam apps. The iOS is not ranked as high. The D30H provides non-buffered parking mode if you hardwire the dash cam to your vehicle (optional hardwire kit required).
On the positive side, the camera comes with both a suction and adhesive mount. As is typical with wedge shaped cameras, the D30H cannot swivel to record interactions at the side windows. This dash cam is on the larger size at 106 x 73 x 39mm but it actually looks bigger in pictures than in real life. Using the adhesive mount it can be somewhat discreetly mounted. With the suction mount, it is not discreet at all.
Build quality is average with numerous complaints about the suction mount quality. Reliability has not been the best as well and the D30H does not come with audio error notifications. It does provide screen error notifications but these can easily be missed by the driver.
Pruveeo appears to be responsive to questions but like most generic Chinese cameras, the camera has limited support. We have not seen any firmware updates for this camera since it has been launched.
There have been numerous reports of the camera freezing / stops recording. There is no known solution for this problem.
A number of owners have complained of random reboots when using the camera. If this occurs, ensure you are using the supplied power cord. Otherwise there is no known solution for this problem.
Should I Purchase?
While the Pruveeo D30H a popular camera on Amazon, we are not impressed with the video quality from the front camera which is average at best during the day and below average at night. The interior camera does an average job if you ignore the fact the colors are way off.
Build quality is not the greatest and the camera is on the larger side. Firmware updates are non-existent as well. On the positive side, the $80 price tag, WiFi with an ok app and the inclusion of both an adhesive and suction mount is good. If you are interested in this camera, and want to save a few bucks, the equivalent RangeTour D30H sells for under $65 on Aliexpress.
