Bricked mini 0801

The problem are not the elf files.

I got the same problem as OP. I tried to flash the firmware from this thread to my dashcam from Givoe (GPS, no internal memory) and I bricked it. It was displaying "Processing", then I heard a strange noise from the speaker and then nothing but the red LED.

I made my own cable by soldering pin 4 and 5 together, tested it for short circuit with my multimeter and the cam is actually recognized.

I downloaded your RAR archive, the driver actually works (shows as Ambarella Evaluation Board 1.2.3.0 in device manager)

But when I try to flash mini0801.e2b or 20130903-NO1-SPI-1CARD-2710-GPS-MA310.elf, it fails at "BLD execution failed".

Here is the complete log:

The LED goes blue when I hit Connect, I put 300000 timeout, everything seems to be OK... but I can't get it to work :(

After it failed, Connect does nothing. I have to hold Power to reboot it.

Also, after install-filter.exe finishes (just before BLD execute failed.), the device appears with an exclamation mark in the device manager (whereas before it is working OK)

Code:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

Maybe it has Something to do with the board.ini not being compatible with our devices. I have tried different board.ini files but they all give the same results. I found it strange anyways that my device was delivered with such an old f/w and that I'm not being able to put the new October firmware on it. Probably they found an old batch of mini 0801 and send those out to costumers.

I was able to put the october firmware on mine. Then I tried the .TS one because it had the Beep volume option. Didn't think it would fry my cam...

I seem to have the same problem as nuxator. My cam won't reboot automatically after the first stage it seems.

Wow I don't know how, but I managed to do it by refollowing exactly the steps here: http://dashcamtalk.com/mini-0801/#Unbricking_the_Camera
I don't know why it didn't work the first time I tried those instructions, maybe the driver wasn't set up correctly.

It seems to be a different version of DirectUSB than in Tobi@s' RAR file. Weird.

There are a few Direct USB Versions out there..
Great you managed to unbrick your device. The strange noise after flashing TS firmware is normal and happened to me, too. But I didn't brick mine :D

Yeah I was almost desperate, I just got it today after waiting for almost 2 month of shipping, and I just bricked it :D I like hacking/messing with electronics :) I'll follow your other thread closely. Do you know how to remove the startup/shutdown sound? The option has been removed from recent firmwares

Read my last post in my other thread.. I think I'm pretty close :D

Bricked my device :(
I made a cable pin 4 and 5 soldered and when connect it to pc shows as Ambarella Evaluation Board 1.2.3.0 in device manager.
But it says that when i push connect:

Help please :(

Which operating system and which version of the USB connect software are you using?

You'll need an elf version firmware to get it going again also

Cable is ok, yes. Do you have an antivirus software? Disable it and try again

cable is ok, I usually use the older version of the USB software for XP, there's a link to it in the GS1000 section on the main page, you sometimes need to install the Ambarella webcam driver, not always though

Successed :D

But cable didn't recognised device first. And i tried standart OTG cable. Worked. Interesting. Fw was 20130905 and tried to upgrade to 20131202 with Honda logo (Thanks to Tobi@s) But didn't work. Then tried to 20140115 (beta) ELF Linux Executable for DirectUSB. I tried to intall again by sd card. it says "processing" 10 minutes. Will brick again? :D

Edit: Reset worked. Didn't brick. And now 20140115 (beta). What do you think about this fw? Any problem? Should i use it? Or should i try to back 20131202? (I love Honda logo) ;)

I just bricked mine trying to go from 121202 to 121230 firmware....
My 0801 only stays at blue light.
How do I make the direct usb cable? (I already have a couple OTG cables).
I just open up the mini-usb end and solder a wire from pin 4 to 5? I don't need to disconnect it?

Yes you have to connect 4 and 5 pins. Look at the picture. I made it this way.
You can visit here https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/direct-usb-cable-easy-diy-for-bricked-mini-0801.5770/
Thanks for Niko for high res pictures.
