Mobius support thread and Tech Guide (post all problems/help requests here) Read posts #1-8 first

I installed it and tried indoor the new "Low light" WDR option but it seems that it has the same flickering problem like in 0.57. For the moment my Mobius is on v1.17, normal WDR, -20 sharpness, maybe in the weekend I'll review some night footage to see how it is. I also have the fealing that 0.59 0.47 had better low light quality, but I haven't had the time to do tests or play with the new settings.
I saved some night recordings for comparation, all are 1080p, standard video rate and the differences in configuration are:
- FW 0.47, WDR on
- FW 1.13, WDR on, all advanced image settings at default levels
- FW 1.17, WDR on (normal mode), all advanced image settings at default levels except sharpness which was -20
Here are two scenes with each FW version, captured as PNG from VLC almost in the same place: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wfgfxve2w16yxl3/pOf5h3NMEi

I'll think I'll stick to 1.17 and start playing with the advanced settings.

LE: a quote from Tom Frank regarding WDR:
Tom Frank;27638842 said:
A FW revision is already being tested... but quite honestly, the WDR function is not likely to work well for both very dark scenes (e.g. night use) and for bright scenes with dimly lit/shady areas occupying only a part of the scene. So, I'm not sure if there will be a "fix", per se.

I follow http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1904559 & it's a valuable resource for Mobius owners, particularly thanks to the expertise of Isoprop, Tom Frank, therau2000, etc.

They do dispense great advice, however, posts sometimes get overlooked in the volume of traffic, & a sympathetic response is more likely if you mention that you've read mandatory posts 1 to 8, & have used the search facility, but cannot find the solution to the problem. It's quite likely that the problem has been posted/resolved several times, but is buried in the 7,700 previous posts.

The Developer monitors http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/forums/mobius.38/ & http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1904559 & feedback from these Forums have, to some extent, influenced development, which has resulted in additional features like Motion Detect & accessories like the Capacitor kit.

http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/forums/mobius.38/ plus http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1904559 plus regular Firmware upgrades plus an excellent camera plus a wide range of accessories add up to a total package that exceeds the sum of it's parts.

The people over at the RC forums seem very knowledgeable! I had searched the forums for my issue but just couldn't find the same problem....but then as you pointed out, it is a busy forum with a lot of posts! I made the comment about the fast response here because I was/am truly appreciative for the quick assist! I am planning on getting the capacitor and wide lens for the Dashcam and will probably have another Mobius for whatever else I can figure to use it for!

I have another issue I am trying to resolve. I am seeing what I call vertical line pixelation on the videos. I put a raw sample here: http://dlkurtz.com/Mobius/REC_0032.MOV
The file is about 41meg and is 18 seconds long. You can really see it on the car in front of me. I have compared my video to ones on YouTube and I don't see that issue. I also put a video up on YouTube that I edited and published so its not raw but you can still see the lines or pixelation. Here's that video:

The current settings are as follows:
01 Mobius Basic Settings.jpg

02 Mobius Global Recording Settings.jpg

03 Mobius Video Mode Settings.jpg

04 Mobius Advanced Image Settings.jpg

If someone has any ideas of any adjustments I might be able to make, that would be great!

Tom Frank wrote on the RC forum about a person complaining of vertical lines in the video "It's a bug that appeared in the recent FW. It only appears in the 1080p and 720p-30fps rotated videos. The developer is now aware of this and will find a solution it an upcoming FW update. Hang tight!"

Thanks GJHS! I just set the rotation back and sure enough, it looks better!

Hi,

I'm a little excited about receiving my Mobius :) so thought I would post this question so I do not muck up my Mobius when I first use it.

Just wondered what do I do first...

Do I not turn it on and put it on charge to into mains/PC to make sure the battery is at full capacity when I first turn it on?

Do I put my memory card in before/after charge (also how do I know what way the card goes in?)

When I turn it on first time with my card in do I format it using the GUI first before using?

Do I update the firmware straight away?

Just a few questions as this is my first dash cam :) what did you all do?

Thought I'd post here then start new thread

  1. Plug it in first.
  2. The card will fit in one way; label down. Before or after charging won't matter.
  3. Yes, format the card first.
  4. Not really needed; play with it first!

Thanks. I think I'll just plug it into mains (using apple charger?) to charge it first, without micro sd card in so it doesn't come on and start filming :)

Then plug it in to PC, format card, adjust settings etc... Then enjoy :)

Auto record with power on is usually set to Off initially, so it shouldn't start recording out of the box with power on and SD card in.
But yeah, your way will work with no problems. :)

Here is the main page setup by Isoprop with the GUI and the instruction manual http://www.mytempfiles.info/mobius/index.html. Take some time and read it through it should answer almost all of your questions. Next read the first 8 posts of this thread, they are a must read to avoid problems like for example providing the wrong power to the camera (<1A).

As far as firmware goes, for any camera, the best way is to keep current on the forums. The Mobius is fortunately ever evolving and upgrading, so knowing what's what will make the experience a happy one. I can't say enough for how many improvements the developer has made in a short period of time, yet there have been some problems. For example v1.17 just was a firmware created to fix previous card compatibility problems some were having, so if your camera was problem free then you should have skipped it. Unfortunately some didn't read the original post pointing to the BETA warning, upgraded and found their previous perfect camera now with problems.

I know there is a lot of posts and a lot to read and it takes time, yet there is no substitute that will help maximize your experience and make sure your camera does what you need it to.

I apologize if my post was taken the wrong way. Also I didn't mean to get off topic. I really do appreciate the help from isoprop and everyone else in this forum, I was just expressing how I felt about the app being discontinued, although it isint a major issue. Also I really like the friendly nature here rather than the common forum attitude of "why didn't you search"or "google it". Being a member at the 8thcivic forum I can say from experience that this place is very different from most forums.
As it takes very little more effort to provide the answer, or at least a link to the answer of a question, than it does to post a scolding "Why don't you google it?!" type answer, I'm guessing that the hostile attitude of some people on forums says more about them and the forum than it does about the person asking the question. I've bever really understood the whole anti-noob vibe of some forums; it just makes those forums like an unpleasant school playground. And about as reliably informative. ;)

What people sometimes overlook is that your camera will turn ON when you connect it to your PC or external power supply. Don't worry if the yellow LED blinks. It will do that if there is no card inserted. If you only want to charge the battery, then you should press the power button to turn the camera OFF.
The green LED will turn off when charging is complete.

Thanks GJHS,

I did in fact read through this whole thread after I posted  but having my questions directly confirmed it for me :)

If v1.17 is a BETA then technically mine should come with the firmware before this, although the listing does state the camera will come with the most up to date firmware?

Regards to providing the power, I bought all the accessories direct from the vendor… apart from the 3m USB, I bought this from a UK seller as I was going to wire in my USB lead before receiving the camera but now I’m worried it may not provide the necessary power? This is what I purchased - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330761607633?clk_rvr_id=595841249445

Also… following a drive to work this morning, 75% of my drive consists of driving into the sun, I have to have my visor down and sun glasses on. It’s not hot here in UK yet but my worry is will the constant glare direct from the sun damage the camera lens?

I'm not sure which version your will come with, doubt it will be v1.17 since there were two versions of version 1.17. Stick with firmware v1.13 for now until v1.18 is released.

As far as power, this is what provides the power ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/180942478506 pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item2a21031caa ) not the USB cable. The main importance is that the camera receives at least 1A of power and some cheap adapters only provide .5A

I would reccomend getting an up angle adapter for the end ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/251427179017 ) to help you mount the camera behind the rearview mirror. The straight plugs can make it difficult.

@Isoprop has the sun been known to damage the lens or CMOS? I would make a polarizing filter using the lens cap and some old 3D glasses from the movies ( http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/polarising-filter-done.2776/#post-31710 ) not to only protect the lens yet help you get better footage.

What I "think" can drive people a little crazy is when they start by saying "I'm too lazy to read ......" I think we have all gotten red eyes reading the 100 page thread on our favorite cameras. It's sort of an initiation :p

I have asked my fair share of silly questions and gone a little  Off topic. Thankfully this is a super friendly place and you guys are great :D

Thanks for reply. Yes i purchased one of those cigerette chargers from the vendor with the camera.

Thanks for the suggestion on the up angle adaptor, definitely something to consider, i'll have a look on eBay uk.

Nice link to the polarised lens. I see someone tried to mod a jelly lens, why didnt this work for them? This seller sells polarised jelly lenses? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180659825512
If not, is it better to buy a lens i.e. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_o...570.l1313&_nkw=polarized+camera+Lens&_sacat=0 and then modify the cap as your link shows.

The sun is only there when we have clear skys, thats not all the time in UK but when its clear, blimey that sun is blinding. If the sun is back out tomorrow morning i will take a picture from where the camera would be and post it up of what i have to battle with on a sunny morning :)

There is definitely a time and place to keep the rules about multiple posts and rereading info enforced, but in many forums its way too strict. Here there seems to be a good balance between helpfulness and reducing repeated questions. Back to the topic however, because we all go off it sometimes. Has anyone had their videos colors almost washing out in some situations? I think it might just be the bright sun and reflections off the dash and window doing it but was just curious. Here is a picture, its not too bad but makes the video less vibrant than other times. Perhaps a polarized lens would reduce this as was mentioned above?Picture2.jpg
