The Vantrue S1 Pro Max, also called the Sonnet 1 Pro Max, is a Chinese built, 2-channel camera launched in July 2025. The S1 Pro Max is one of the few dash cams with front and rear 4K video, a significant improvement over the S1 Pro model released in 2023.
The Vantrue S1 Pro Max is based on the Novatek NT98529 processor. It uses a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 CMOS sensor for the front camera and the same Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 CMOS sensor for the rear camera. The introduction of the STARVIS 2 4K sensors for both cameras is a significant improvement from a hardware perspective.
Comparison with Vantrue S1 Pro
The following table highlights the improvements the Vantrue S1 Pro Max has when compared to the Vantrue S1 Pro.
| Area | Vantrue S1 Pro Max | Vantrue S1 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| CMOS Sensor | Starvis 2 4K sensors for both cameras | Starvis 2 2K sensor for front camera |
| Front Cam Resolution | 3840×2160p | 2560×1440p |
| Rear Cam Resolution | 3840×2160p | 1920×1080p |
| Cloud Support | Yes | No |
| Max. SD card size | 1 TB | 512 GB |
| Waterproof rear cam | Yes | No |
Video Quality
The S1 Pro Max front camera records 2160p (4K) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 32 Mbps. The STARVIS 2 sensor performs well with very good video quality during the day and reasonable quality video at night. We find that the video is comparable to other premium dash cams using the same STARVIS 2 sensor.
The rear camera records 2160p (4K) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 24 Mbps. Video quality is excellent for a rear camera during the day but at night, while decent, video quality is not the best, particularly in low lit situations.
Features
The Vantrue S1 Pro Max has a 2″ screen, g-sensor, GPS, 5 GHz WiFi and free apps for Android and iOS. A new feature for 2025 is cloud support. With the optional Vantrue LTE module, you can connect to your dash cam remotely.
One area which can be seen as a negative for the S1 Pro Max is its size. This dash cam is on the larger size at 150 x 89 x 120mm. The S1 Pro Max build quality is very good and the camera comes with screen error notifications. The dash cam also comes with voice control supporting numerous voice commands such as “Take Photo”, “Turn on Wifi” and “Lock the video”.
Vantrue has also introduced PlatePix technology to improve license plate readability. In some scenarios this provides a little bit of improvement but if license plate readability is a key feature you are looking for, consider a camera with a telephoto lens.
Parking Mode
The Vantrue S1 Pro Max supports the following parking modes with the purchase of an optional hardwiring kit:
- Buffered Motion Detection
- Collision Detection (not useful as recording starts 10+ seconds after impact)
- Low bitrate recording
- Low framerate recording
Support
Like other Vantrue products, build quality is good and reliability appears to be good as well. Vantrue has decent support and does provide firmware updates. The warranty can be extended from 12 months to 18 months when registering online which is a positive.
Known Problems
There are no common problems reported with this camera.

Should I Purchase
The Vantrue S1 Pro Max is an excellent dual camera dash cam. The 4K video quality of the STARVIS 2 sensors is great, build quality is good and the camera comes with many features such as 1TB MicroSD card support, optional cloud capabilities and an 18 month warranty with registration.
The primary negative is the larger size and high cost for a dual camera. For less money, the 70mai T800 has front and rear 4K video quality but also comes with a cabin camera making it a much better buy.
