eh personally I am a neat freak and hate when anything looks like it was tacked on. i think i would only like a mirror cam if it replaced my current mirror completely.

Theoretically, I think this device can cover your current mirror. But people have different needs and preferences. Anyway, thanks for your feedback 😛

I really like my rear view mirror I have in my car; it is auto dimming (and has several sensors for other functions) so I would not like to cover my nice mirror with this. However if it replaced the whole mirror and was auto dimming (and I could add back in the necessary sensors) then we might have a winner depending on the results of the video it shoots.
What I would rather see would be a "kit" that lets you put a camera and its electronics into a mirror. I suppose that you could take a camera apart and do the same thing but a kit would just make it easier. Also while I am wishing make it dual channel so you can run a rear camera too.

The only issue can see is that driving a right hand drive car and the way the mirror is facing it would potentially miss some of the the view.
I can see it working ok on a left hand drive car though.

Good point! I will tell this to our supplier and see what they can do to improve this product.

Yep, it does work on the left hand. But you may not always be looking at that mirror since you can easily see the facing view when you are driving, don't you? 😀

The other issue, not discussed yet, is the fact that it's so wide that it won't allow you to put down the sun visors.

I mean the angle we point our mirrors would mean the camera will not be a full view of the windscreen if you know what I mean.

Techmoan did a review on a similar setup (not this brand). If you watch the video you will see what I mean (look from 4m 30s in)

Ben

I an not sure enlarging the size of the mirror is legal here, the only cars i have seen with oversize mirrors and extra mirrors is driving instructor cars.
And for sure you are not allowed to have a LCD screen running displaying movies or other not related to your safe handling of the car footage, its barely navunits is allowed here it seem.

The pic in #1 of the cam mounted do stand out due to the bright colored original mirror and the dark straps that hold on the dashcam, so if it was me i would have to paint the original mirror dark, witch is no problem as i am a avid DIY person and a skilled painter with access to paintbooth and so on for both regular painting and powder painting.

I like the concept, but i would prefer the unit to be same size as a regular mirror, and have the camera on a flexebile stalk or somthing to you can bend it into a optimal position ( fully ackknowleging this idea can collide with the layout of the mirror and relates stuff on some car brand / models )

On my little suzuki it would be no problem as my mirror come off the sealing, and have plenty of room in front ot it.

That can be another shortcoming of that dashcam....

Ben

Thank you Ben, and that's really helpful. The camera will point to the front only if the mirror point to the left. It will just take one side view down if the mirror point to the middle place.

Yes, in the UK where we have right hand drive cars our mirrors will point to the right meaning this type of mirror dvr will either miss part of the view or see part of our rear view mirror. In a left hand drive where the mirror faces left the cam will work perfectly as it will face fowards.

Ben

Even in left hand drive applications a lot of these mirrors have trouble, depends a lot on the driving position as how it needs to be aimed

This is something I haven't tried yet but willing to if there is some that really delivers the quality and with adjustable angles.
For black rearview mirrors, black wraparound dashcam won't be too visible from outside.
If the rearview mirror is cream colored like in the original post here, then it's too contrasting.
