Vantrue S1 Pro Max coming soon (Pre-orders now live!, shipping after July 1st 2025)

Myself, I am not sold on the ADAS from dash cams, but, I am not real happy with them from the car manufacturers either. 🙂 In my mind, I have this belief that a dash cam should do just what it is meant to do. Add features like ADAS and what ever else just gets the dash cam farther away from its true intent and causes the manufacturer to invest heavily in those features, possibly distracting from the main intent of a dash cam.

But, to each, their own.
Agreed, a lot of in car ones are useless, or annoying like lane keep assist. I do find autonomous emergency braking and blind spot detection useful though. Others like that rear occupant alert are useless - if you leave a shopping bag or backpack it's enough to constantly trigger it and beep.

I think it's a posturing thing when it comes to technology, there needs to be useful additions but also a lot of it is just adding it to make it look like you're keeping up with the Joneses - much what I think is happening with ADAS in dashcams...

The only ADAS feature I found useful, was on a late model Subaru Outback and it was the front collision/emergency braking feature which actually saved me from an accident; the rest where nothing more than noisy annoyances and often alerted on non-issues. I could not even go down my driveway and enter the garage without the ADAS alerting. Very annoying.

Thanks Subaru! (and every other car manufacturer these days)

I read a comment about the S1 Pro Max by a new dashcam user on the Vantrue FB page saying that the rear camera runs really hot.

I haven't thought much about rear camera temperatures before. I wonder if making the rear camera waterproof affects its ventilation?

My car has a few driver aids but not many, and I don't use any of the optional ones. It will be interesting to see how ADAS on the S1 Pro Max compares to my car, but I doubt it will be compelling enough to use all the time.

One of the big things missing on a dashcam is a lack of sensors compared to a car. There's only so much data even the best processor can infer from a video stream.

Not even all the time, I would even say it would be useful any of the time. Bold claim but I suspect it might be true

If there's no ventilation grilles then totally would run hot. Can't have grilles cos then it wouldn't be waterproof, in which case it's up to thermal paste etc etc

Is there any other dashcam with a 4K waterproof rear camera? I believe the T800 4K rear is interior only.
