Dashcam gets us out of wrongly issued ticket

We recently got a wrongly issued parking ticket, but luckily our dashcam footage helped to get us out of it. Here's what happened.

For sure. In this instance I was running auto event detection so it was the motion detection that triggered the recording.

Wow, since the car was parked at 10:23, I wonder what triggered the 10:31 event?
Did the motion sensor detect all the traffic in the adjacent lane?
Or was it raindrops? A lucky coincidence.

The issue isn't the need for a dashcam per say, but parking attendants who are "Cognitively Stunted".......Your wife parked on one side of the road, left, came back, and parked on the opposite side of the road.....It's not like the car was in the identical spot when the parking attendant returned to issue the ticket.

Yes, the dashcam saved you, but someone needs to stiffen hiring practices, because if it's happened to you, it's happened to others........

So I can't speak for every area, and I didn't mention it in this video, but in that area they explicitly say you can't just move your car to the other side of the street to get past the 2h limit. You have to go to a totally different street (which we did and they didn't know).

Here, the 2 hour limit signs also say "no return within 3 hours", so that if they check every 2.5 hours, they would have seen that you had left and they wouldn't have issued the ticket. Without that, it appears to become your word against theirs, and unless they have continuous surveillance cameras then they have no evidence that their ticket is valid, so a court should take your word, innocent until proven guilty. With that extra wording, you would have been guilty! However here, you would probably have been allowed to move to the other side.

Seems like a system meant to benefit the city and screw people over. It becomes a he said / she said about whether the car was there continuously or the person returned again hours later......My hunch tells me the judge will believe the city worker 100% of the time unless proven otherwise.

Recently my wife was given a £100 ticket for driving through an airport drop-off lane without paying to park (she didn't actually park, the in/out time stamps were 1 min 33 seconds apart). It took them a week to issue the ticket, and 6 more days to arrive in the post, by which time her dashcam video of that day was overwritten so we had no evidence to contest the fine.

She has written to them to complain about the confusing signage. She was trying to get to the short stay car park, but possibly drove through the drop-off zone on the way.

UK also gives your home address from your license plate to any private company that says they need it. 🤮

Oof, that's a good point about needing huge memory cards for mail-in tickets. Since this one was physically put under the wiper, she got it immediately and we pulled the dashcam footage when she got home, thus it was less of an issue for this type of ticket.

There's really no size that'll cover you for weeks if using parking mode (low bitrate) regularly. 512GB is largest card available. That may get you out a week or so depending on parking and driving habits. The only way you'd achieve long term storage is by using an SSD with the Viofo A329.

No such thing here, you set the clock on your windscreen when you park / arrive in a time limited spot, and then if the parking gangsters arrive, they let you slide or give you a fine.

Parking fines + income from parking in general since this was privatised in all municipalities have,,,,, i dont know 200 doubled.

In the greater Danish capitol area people paid over 726 million DKkr to park in 2024, and aside that 330.000 was fined for not paying / following the rules.

Parking attendants are some of the most hated people in Denmark it seem.

510 and 1020 Dkkr are the most normal parking fines, that is 79 USD / 160 USD, but it can get more pricy for you.

I just heard that the company agreed to cancel the parking ticket.

It would have been nice to have had dashcam footage though. I'm thinking about upgrading her dashcam soon.
