Hi all,

Just bought for a friend a A229 Plus (tricamera setup). I hardwired it with the HK5 and observed a very strange issue related to the HK5. Even if the HK5 was wired correctly, I observed that it shuts down irregularly (red light becomes off) sometimes after 2-3 seconds after car ignition off and other times after 3 minutes even if the setting is 11.8V and the voltage as measured by me at the respective (crimped joints) terminals is 12.3V (as example, but in anyway higher than 11.8V by far). Considering the fact the battery is new and outputs 12.3 V also when measured directly and that the HK5 says it will shutdown after 90 seconds below the specified threshold makes me think the HK5 I received is defective. (Almost zero chance the 2 wires are not crimped correctly).
Also, camera works perfectly as designed when ignition is on.
Anyone hit this issue before? If there’s anything to check I’d do it now, before I’d ask for a replacement.

I find it odd that Viofo specifically lists HK5 as compatible only with the VS1 dashcam.
It certainly seems like the 5V/2A output specs would be compatible with other dashcams like A229 Plus since it's a USB-C connector. Why is Viofo silent on compatibility of other dashcams?
Does the Connector fit with no interference into the camera?
There is more information at BBMC shown below.

I can’t answer on behalf of Viofo, but I can say it fits perfectly the A229 Plus with no adapter. The reason this kit is used in this case is because the main Romanian distributor of Viofo suggests (via a checkbox “buy hardware kit”) to buy this specific one when buying this camera. Later edit: in our Ro page for A229 plus they specify in several places HK5 as well. They are well known for Viofo here and I bought for them before, quite experienced.

Maybe asking differently: for anyone who used this HK5, any similar issues ?

Try disabling additional cameras and see how the A229 Plus behaves.
Thanks, I will try. Note I tried only with front and rear (the third one was the latest step, after I'd test parking mode). What's your reasoning behind the suggestion, if I may ask? Too much amperage draw cause of a faulty secondary camera that could lower the voltage so much?

It's always a good idea to break down the hardware to the simples possible configuration when troubleshooting. That way you can rule out a conflict caused by the other hardware.

Have you tried powering the camera with a separate source (not using the HK5) and letting the camera time out into parking mode?
I think most of the Viofo cameras enter parking mode when they are left completely undisturbed (motionless) for at least 5 minutes. If the camera still misbehaves in the same manner ( shutting down) a few minutes after entering parking mode then you could rule out the HK5.

Also, camera works perfectly as designed when ignition is on.
There may be a connection issue.
Check the connections again with a multimeter.
If everything is connected correctly, the problem lies with the HK5 and it needs to be replaced.
