just pulled the car from my N5, stuck it in my PC, put the latest firmware file on it, put it back in the camera, started the camera up and it updated the firmware, restarted and went to setup screen, then rebooting in endless loop.

Magic 8 Ball (pre-AI) says;
1.) Short press reset button when connecting power
2.) Long press reset button when connecting power
3.) Repeat with no SD Card

Sorry to hear you're having trouble after the firmware update. Could you please try formatting the memory card to FAT32 and then reinserting it into the camera?

did that with the firmware update again and still reboots

It looks like the N5 isn't getting enough power.
How is the N5 powered?

Get a different SD card and use that for the update. As you know, format it as FAT32 on your PC, copy over a freshly downloaded copy of the FW (the original may be corrupt), use the proper software command to eject or dismount the SD from the PC, insert the SD into the N5, and power up.

Ensure there are no other files on the SD card, and that the FW is the only file you copy to the SD card. If in the car, then use the CLA to power the N5.

What tool are you formatting with, and what brand are the SD cards?

yes with a fat32 formatter
Please try the methods suggested by other members. Additionally, could you kindly check whether the dash cam still restarts repeatedly without a memory card inserted?

blank formatted sandisk 256GB card i have been using since i got it without issues. ive redownloaded the firmware file onto the again fat32 formatted card as the only file, ejected safely form PC, stuck in camera, it updated then started restarting.
took card out and it just restarts without the card in it as well, disconnected rear camera, still restarts.
im formatting it with the fat32 formatter program i have been using on dozens of dashcams and sd cards without issues for many years

Seems you have done all you can then. I would request a warranty with VanTrue.
I suspect there is probably a button press/power on combination that may do a deeper reset, but Vantrue may not be willing to reveal that.

could you please try to use a Vantrue sd card and car charger to check if it works?

@wozzzzza

1. Download a previous version of the N5 Firmware here older than "Newest One": https://www.vantrue.net/Support/detail/id/293.html

2. Please the Firmware on the MAIN DIRECTORY of the SD CARD and not in a sub folder

3. With N5 turned off insert Memory Card into SD Slot

4. Power the N5 using the 12V Adapter and NOT hardwire kit

See if this fixes the issue.

you know what, i had thought of that as it did show those symptons of a power supply issue but mylack of time and it happened right after firmware update got me and i never tried it until now and yes its working fine on the cigarette power supply so the hardwire kit has gone kaput
