A329S boot time

Have a Forester 2025 that I will be checking for parasitic battery draw. As the battery voltage tends to be low. These new cars use a lot of electric and since I bought a gasoline car would rather not plug it in every night.

Now have no parking mode and when the car is off the Dash Cam and HK-6 unit draws no power. While I only used Low Power Impact mode about 3 hrs. a week and geo-fencing at home I still had problems with low battery voltage. Enough that parking mode was shutting off because of low voltage. So until a proper fix is determined have done the following.

I rewired the Dash Cam Power Supply. I intentionally wanted to change the plus or always on wire to be connected to an accessory on only so the camera would not use parking mode. Also that would remove any drain from the battery caused by dash cam when the car is not running; it would have no power at all. To do this I removed the add a fuse wire from location 12 at the fuse panel which was always on and was a empty slot not being used. And in position 17 (right under 12) with a 7.5 fuse is a accessory fuse slot. I pulled the 7.5 amp fuse and installed it in bottom of add a fuse wire and plugged in the add a fuse wire. Only takes about 10 mins to change over.

You simply needed to disable parking mode in the dashcams menu.

That will not remove the power that the HK-6 uses.
I wanted all power removed for possible warranty work. Get it ?

So is it possible that the real "long startup" issue I have been seeing here is that a momentary dip in voltage while cranking the car triggering a cutoff by the HK4 box, then a complete reset of the A329S, resulting in the system missing arguably one of the most key moments in potential liability protection by video evidence - just starting a drive?

If you are aware of such a problem, why not start moving one minute after starting the engine?

Asked succinctly, does an HK4 instantaneously cut off the power when the voltage momentarily dips during cranking?

Are you certain that, while the starter is cranking, a momentary voltage drop occurs at the HK4 contacts, rather than a complete power cutoff?
As far as I know, the HK4 switches off 30 seconds after the voltage drops below the threshold set on the unit.
It also cuts off power instantly if the power supply to the HK4 itself is interrupted.

That’s understandable, but the power consumption of the HK6 itself is so low
that going through all the trouble of rewiring it wasn't really worth the effort. 😉

Subaru Lawsuit: Battery Drain Defect

There is an issue. Also, there was an issue with the satellite module on the back of the radio (in the dash) causing parasitic drain. As I recall, one way to test was to remove the fuse for the radio/satellite in the engine compartment. Might have been another fuse, not positive. Check the Subaru Outback and Forrester forums.

that going through all the trouble of rewiring it wasn't really worth the effort.

I do not think it showed that much trouble and was not a complete rewire.
I do not think you are thinking about what really might be a problem. A one year old car and battery that is beginning to read 11.9 volts means a problem that needs to be addressed. The car is completely stock. Except for the dash cam. And for it to have a battery issue at that age and under warranty means I need to eliminate even the 10ma HK-6 that is being used 24-7. As I am writing this I know you did not get it the first time. It was a 10 min. fix to get 0 amps from the dash cam and HK-6. I posted it to show how easy it is to get rid of all power drain. Sorry you just have a hard time understanding.

I have an 2013 Outback, so I have not been plagued with these later issues. The Satellite module and Eyesight / Auto Start-Stop have caused a number of issues for people.

The wiring and dashcam should not be an issue on the older Subarus like mine, on yours....I would pull it all out before I took it into the dealership. There is almost always a vacant fuse place to pick up power in a Subaru; however, these new ones have so much stuff on them that it is difficult at times. If you have the remote start FOB or keyless start, that is another one that can be problematic.
