Here's my use case:

Mainly drive during the mid afternoon day to night time (figure 8pm) for work. I park in relatively OK neighborhoods, but this is where I want parking mode. At night I park in my driveway on a quiet street and have no worries. I also have a driveway cam set up just in case something happens there.

So that being said, parking mode will be on for a few hours at a time.

While driving I'm looking for good image/video quality, with the ability to read US license plates. I'm a safe driver and I trust myself, but I do NOT trust others on the road with me, especially in the NYC/NJ area.

This will either be hooked to the fusebox, or the OBDII port.

Weather - typical NJ weather. Highs of over 100 F (38C) in the summer, down to 0 F (-18C) in the winter. Always driving with the AC set to 65F (18C).

So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Viofo cam will give you reliable performance and has better heat tolerance - premium product.

Vantrue cams fit a tighter budget better and deliver great performance for the price, but have their issues. Frame skip, run very hot generally and parking mode is a little spotty - depending on the mode you choose to run.

I vote the Vatrue N4 Pro S. Much better camera than the A229, and Viofo's are known for shutting down in heat, especially the A229 Series. I've never once heard of a Vantrue shutting down due to overheating.

The Vantrue N4 Pro S is a solid camera that I have myself. In this case, go Vantrue from personal testing experience. The specs are much better than the 229 as well.

N4 Pro S (Front / Rear / Interior): 3-Channel 4K+1080P+2.5K Recording
A229: Front and Rear 2K+2K

Your recommendation is incorrect and Vantrue Cameras do not skip frames. They are far from a "Budget" camera. They also do not overheat in parking mode or while recording. You're confusing Vantrue with Viofo's earlier models.

The person is choosing between the Vantrue N4 Pro S and the Viofo A229 Pro.
Have you checked the specs for the A229 Pro recently?
And for what it's worth, my A229 Pros have never once shut down due to the heat.

It's possible the person has outdated information...
Upon its release, this model suffered from issues with dropped and duplicated frames.
This problem has currently been resolved.

I didn't see the pro in the topic so the specs I mentioned are wrong. However, Viofo cameras have a history of reaching Thermal Shutdown and cutting off. Here's Vortex talking about the A229 Pro overheating.

I've yet to see or hear of a Vantrue shut off in high heat.

Ended up getting the N4 Pro S, installed the front/cabin cam yesterday with an OBDII kit and wiring the rear camera up. I have to wait a few days to install the rear camera, because my tint in being installed Tuesday, but it should be a 2 second process.

@entropism Good Choice. Did you get the elongated barrel shaped rear camera? That redesign was done with my input. I run the N4 Pro S and it's an EXCELLENT model. You'll be happier with this than the A229 Pro. Had you mentioned the Viofo A329S/T Models, the Telescopic lens is fantastic. But given your two choices the Vantrue was the better one here.

Yes, I got the barrel type camera, rather than the waterproof exterior camera. I was surprised how easy it was to install everything, but I'm also glad I didn't go with the fuse box hardwire kit, as that would involve removing portions of my dash to install.

How is the A329T telephoto camera better than the A229 Pro telephoto camera?
Could you explain? I'm very curious.
I have both telephoto cameras on hand, and so far, I haven't noticed any difference in video quality...

The A229 Pro had mentions of heat issues in the thread I posted from Vortex Radar. I haven't seen any complaints of the A329S/T as of yet. I simply mentioned had OP asked about the A329S/T the telescopic version is nice.

I believe the two channel A329S/T supports 4K 60 FPS front vs 30 FPS on the A229 Pro series.
