I bought a G1W on Amazon. The price was great (now I know too good to be true...), $40, and fulfilled by Amazon so I was able to get next day shipping for like $3 extra... (I have Prime) The seller has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating with plenty of feedback, 1,700+, so I figured I was good, but I still kept it in my head that I could receive a fake.

Anyway, I did receive a fake, with the lower end processor. However, the video quality isn't unusable. All I wanted in a dash cam was a way to prove myself not at fault of whatever situation my arise, and I believe this camera can do that.

Here is a youtube video -

So, I guess I'm asking for opinions... I already have it, it was only $40, and the quality is ok with me for my purposes. If I want the one that was advertised, I'll have to send it back to amazon, shop for a new one, wait for it to be mailed to me, and then hope it too won't be a fake.

Worth returning, or be happy? Thanks!

looks ok...keep it. By the time you repack the camera and pay the return postage you'll be wasting more than it's worth.

License plate of car in front is clear so pretty good..

Last time I received an item not as described from Amazon 3rd party while fulfilled by Amazon (a game that had been marked as new but really was used), I got a refund from Amazon without having to return the item. Maybe open a case just in case?

Hi,

I would ask Amazon for a full refund. They are usually pretty good at that. Unfortunately I have noticed a lot of G1W's being sold for under $40 recently particularly on Amazon. Seems like many of these are too good to be true. I have put a warning on the main G1W page when purchasing from Amazon as well. It seems like Sport Fort and Zeegoo are selling the fakes. Perhaps others.

The best practice is to listen to what other DCT members report about their experiences and what member vendors have to say and stick with the sellers who have a track record of honest dealings and standing behind what they sell.

To repeat something I said yesterday in another thread, "Sometimes the cheapest price isn't the best deal."

Just an update... The camera is completely useless at night. The picture is completely black, all you can see is lit signs, tail lights, headlights, things like that. Awful. As I do a fair bit of driving at night sometimes, I have no choice but to return it. Even the headlights of my vehicles don't do anything to help.

Thankfully, amazon provides a way to just drop it off at a UPS center, and they give you a shipping label to print out, so I will be getting a full refund. I'll just be sure to buy only from the links provided on the G1W page.

Thanks everyone

@spytec http://www.spytecinc.com/ are based in NYC and had the genuine one on sale this week, think they have an Amazon store as well if that's your preferred place to buy from
SpyTec has seemed to create their own listing on Amazon here.
It seems to can save a few dollars by ordering directly from their website.

I have bought higher end models from them before with no issue. Also their G1W seems to be one of the better ones you can get that is update-able through firmware and has a slightly higher bit rate.
