I'm assuming the battery is there to keep time, but why is it preventing the camera from starting if the battery is dead? Ok so on the capacitor...do I simply solder a cap to the +/- leads and remove the battery?

So is my only option to purchase a new battery every few months? Are capacitor cameras immune to this?
