This video contains day and night video samples from five dash cameras [including the Thinkware U3000 Pro]. I show how well each front and rear camera captures license plates.

One thing I was reminded of while attempting to remove the CPL filter from the U3000 Pro front camera, it's not designed to be removed based on the use of a strong adhesive being used on the adhesive ring securing it to the front camera.

It took a large amount of effort to remove the CPL filter from the front of the U3000 Pro. If you intend on using the CPL filter for the U3000 Pro, you should plan on leaving it installed [day or night].

It would have been nice if Thinkware had used a magnetic ring on the base of the CPL to secure it to a corresponding metal ring [not currently there] on the front camera.

No it is not. The "gap" you see at the bottom of the filter is to be placed at the bottom or the top of the lens. Here's the instruction sheet from the CPL filter.

This is something I didnt like with the u1000 that it seems they never improved. They should have made it a snap on feature like the viofos. Then again, my car also has tints which act like a cpl so i never bothered to add one.

I now have three dash cameras with 4K rear cameras in my Chevy Caprice. [BlackVue Elite 10, VIOFO A229 Ultra, 70mai T800]. I wanted to see how each handled direct sunlight exposure and with the vehicle rotated 180 degrees away from the sun.

A new firmware version U3000 Pro v1.00.04 is now available. I used the Android "Dash Cam Link" app v1.5.6 on an Android 10 tablet to upgrade the U3000 Pro firmware from 1.00.02 to 1.00.04. After the firmware upgrade successfully completed, the Android app was no longer able to connect via Wi-Fi. It would always error out attempting to connect/find the SSID of the U3000 Pro. I force killed the app and power cycled the U3000 Pro, but nothing made the Android app connect over Wi-Fi after the firmware update.

I was able to use the iOS "Dash Cam Link" app v2.3.7 to connect over Wi-Fi to the U3000 Pro [live view session worked].

I removed the U3000 Pro front camera from my car to perform some testing with the LTE module.

During the configuration of the LTE module in the Thinkware Connected app, the app would not register the SIM card. The U3000 Pro's BT/WiFi LED would not change color to yellow to indicate the LTE module was detected and it was ready to be registered. I switched from the short LTE USB cable to the long LTE USB cable. I removed and re-inserted the SIM card. Nothing seemed to work. I left the unit running for about 20-minutes and when I checked again, the BT/WiFi LED was now a blinking yellow color. I was then able to register the U3000 Pro / SIM card in the Thinkware Connected app.

Once I had U3000 Pro / LTE module fully setup in the Thinkware Connected app, I monitored the power draw in normal recording and in energy saving parking mode.

• Without LTE module
  • Normal Recording = 300 mA
  • Energy Saving Parking Mode = 8 mA
• With LTE Module [times = minutes:seconds]
  • Configured for energy saving parking mode
  • Normal Recording = 307 mA
  • ACC power turned off
    • 00:00 => 10:00
      • 150 mA power draw
      • During this time period, a "live view" via the Thinkware Connected app is possible
      • Impact events during this time period will create buffered recordings of 20 seconds [10 before / 10 after]
    • 10:00 => next impact event time
      • 8 mA power draw
      • Live View => fails with message "Some services are restricted in Energy Saving Mode".
      • Impact Detected
        • 20 second unbuffered recording is created
      • 10 minutes later: returns to energy saving parking mode
