2026 Minimum Spec: STARVIS 2 & HDR & Low Power Parking Mode
Hello Team,
Long time no see.
Just had an idea, and wanted to see if it’s possible.

All previous OBD2 Power Cables, (Thinkware, IROAD, VIOFO, Vantrue, 70mai, etc) all work off a combination of monitoring “system voltage” on PIN 16, and a timer, and maybe even a motion sensor.
Example:
Above 13.6V = Engine Running = Driving / Normal Mode
Below 12.6V = Engine Off = Parking Mode

This is because there is no PIN in the DLC (diagnostic link connector) that provides a traditional ACC / IGNITION signal to command Parking Mode & Driving Mode.
Here is my question / idea.

PIN 6 CAN BUS HIGH
PIN 14 CAN BUS LOW
Should have minimal to no activity engine off.
And should be very active engine running.
Would it be possible to use PIN 6 & PIN 14 as the “ACC / IGNITION” signal to enable / disable parking mode.
Of course this would require some type of programmed logic into the OBD2 Power Cable unit to interpret LOW & HIGH activity.
And of course this would only work on vehicles 2008, and newer.
1996 - 2007 vehicles do not have CAN BUS.
But 2008, and newer vehicles are the majority on the road.

HS-CAN won't completely shut down, activity will be present on PHEV/BEV's whilst the vehicle is charging.
Voltage is nominally 2.5 / -2.5V when measured on a DC voltmeter, it only fluctuates dependent upon the amount of activity

Things beconme more complicated when you add Flexray / DoIP as everything goes through a gateway module before being presented at the DLC as HS-CAN...

I had a feeling Hybrids, and EV’s would be a problem.
All my automotive knowledge is expired.
I left industry in 2007, for State service admin positions, (desk job / field work).
This is right around when Hybrids “took over”.
Back to the drawing board 🤣
