Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

@TheSpanishInq is correct--just because there is a speed stamp on the video doesn't mean that the raw GPS data is embedded in the video. And even if there is embedded speed data, it doesn't mean that the it will match the video speed stamp. I've seen dashcams in which the embedded speed and the...

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

I haven't received any Viofo A229 Pro videos for testing with Dashcam Viewer so I can't speak to GPS compatibility. However, it appears some folks have had luck, and others not. Not sure what's going on there, but if a Viofo A229 Pro user can send me a handful of raw "non-working" sample videos...

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

Thanks, @suji_modern. I loaded the files you sent me and they seem to work just fine (see below). No errors reported. In the Control Center, the last file has a "checker flag" indicating this video contains your fastest trip speed, but not error icon shown. You may want to try clearing the...

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

@suji_modern Sorry for the trouble. It could be a change in data format due to newer firmware. Send me one of your raw video files and I'll take a look. You can send me large files using https://wetransfer.com. Thanks! - John

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

@Privateer Here's what I see in Dashcam Viewer v3.9.6 when I load the set of test files you sent me. All looks good: Your issue is probably related to caching of "bad" data for previous file loads. Try clearing the cache then reloading your video files. You can do this via the Advanced...

@Vortex Radar First-time data reads from 100 dashcam videos can take a few seconds to several minutes, depending on the method of GPS data encoding (varies from manufacturer to manufacturer) and the speed of the hard drive or SD card reader. The slowest reads occur when the method of data...

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

@Privateer I revisited my old (2019) RoadHawk HD video sample in v3.9.5 and indeed the GPS data doesn't show up. I did a deeper dive into the video and found that the GPS data is there but it is encrypted (and embedded in the video subtitle track). Dashcam Viewer is able to recognize this and...

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

@Kremmen is right about the Free version only being able to load two Front videos (or two F/R pairs of videos) at a time. If the "1" in the toolbar is grey, that means Dashcam Viewer couldn't find (or didn't recognize) the 2nd channel video. Which dashcam model are you using? Can you send me a...

Interesting. I'll have to test my eval Vantrue S1 Pro and see if I can repeat it. Could be that the GNSS receiver hadn't achieved a signal lock yet. Sometimes it takes a receiver a couple of minutes after a cold start. PS - thanks for being a long time user and fan! :)

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

@JAz909, good questions: Actually, this is normal behavior when loading videos from 2-channel dashcams. From your screenshots, Dashcam Viewer is showing channel 1 playing (you can tell by the "1" in the toolbar). If you click the "1" toolbar button, Dashcam Viewer will cycle between displaying...

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

    a) I like your suggestion although it would be a challenge to implement a simple method. For the time being I'm thinking the "global" option would be better than nothing. b) Yes! I bulk file-renamer would be a good interim workaround for loading whatever channel you want. Just rename channel "C"...

Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

The front channel always has the gps data. Sometimes the 2nd channel does too but it's not guaranteed. That's why I must always select the front channel as one of the 2 channels displayed. To resolve it, I'm thinking about adding a "2nd channel picker" pulldown menu under the Advanced options...
