Is this a world wide occurrence or is it just in USA? I see this all the time where one road worker is working and half a dozen others are standing around watching him work. The hole is big enough for all them to fit. Also, the guy in the coveralls looks like a Minion.

Its the same here, and i am normally the guy digging

The first time I saw that in Asia I had this thought process....'Why does this look familiar but different?' (Same level of inactivity, same hi-vis vests and hard hats, but the guy leaning on the shovel was not fat.) :)

1 worker
1 supervisor
1 foreman
1 inspector
2 managers

Sounds about right. :(

Here in Germany is exactly the same

When democrats control your city/state, chaos is the norm!

Same here - except usually there are no workers at all. I think they visit once a week to ensure the hole is OK.

I suspect that in the USA there is a slightly higher burden of needing workers to guard the works to stop bypassers from falling in and suing.

It looked to me like the one worker was in the hole trying to escape from both the sun and heat. I am not convinced he was working either. :coffee:

As best I can tell, government work at all levels is for those who are unable to do similar work competitively (if at all) in the private sector.

Same here, but also required:

2 x traffic controllers + a traffic supervisor which usually sits in the truck.

OK, natural gas utility worker here. Depending on the situation (workers in the video may be for electric, phone cable, or something else) there maybe 1 or 2 guys actually digging and a couple waiting around to do repairs on the line (welding, splicing cable, etc) and maybe one supervisor and a safety spotter. Years ago we were digging up a large gas main (20 inch line) and during that time a lot of new guys and management were there for training and safety. So, there were 2 guys in the pit doing the work and about 10-15 workers standing around watching them perform the work, and this was in a busy street. Numerous drivers went by us with their cell phones recording and actually complained to the company that there were bunch of people "just standing around" watching a few guys work when it was really a safety/training session for new people on the crew.

I guess using a shovel is too complicated for the repair specialists? :D

Thats how everything work here in the country with the #2 largest public sector.:sleep: but mostly it is one guy making pie charts in power point and 3-4 that supervise him.
Hole digging are a highly skilled art here, mostly left to private enterprise.

Though when it come to collecting back tax owed it seem like the 118 billion DKkr the tax owing of the just about 6 million Danes own in back taxes will not get collected anytime soon, due to the usual "IT" problems.
But they do say the tax authorities will be getting more funds in the future, so maybe soon you cant just send a letter to out tax authorities and claim you are entitled to a xx million DKkr tax refund as you owe / sold some Danish shares.
