2 Channel A229 Plus vs 2X E1 Pro

A229 Plus about $20 CAD more expensive. Going in a small SUV, about the same size as Corolla Cross.

A229 Plus with 512GB Viofo micro SD and 2X E1 Pro with 2X Vantrue 256GB micro SD.

Personally, I think one camera is easier to manage than two. Only requires one hardwire kit and memory card.

I agree.

I was first looking at the S1 Pro Max (4K + 2K version). But earlier firmware had lower than normal bitrate for the main 4K sensor and HDR on the rear camera brighten up the image too much and did not work like HDR in the front camera. On top of all that, people are reporting the rear camera hinge causes vibration in recordings when mounted inside, it's the IP67 rear camera that is meant for outside mounting.

Vantrue has addressed the lower than normal 4K bitrate on the main sensor with a firmware update in December 2025 and it's now the same bitrate as all their other 4K dash cams. HDR for the rear camera has also been improved with newer firmware and they've also acknowledged the rear camera hinge is not ideal and will be rolling out new rear cameras with barrel designs in 2026.

I really like the design of the A229 Plus and even more so the design the S1 Pro Max main unit as oppose the E1 Pro's small square design with a basically unusable screen. Furthermore, I'm more worried about the overheating issues on the E1 Pro that can significantly reduce the dash cam's service life.

Personally for me a 4K rear camera is not needed, and I'd rather have a 2 channel dash cam with a smaller footprint rear camera that's overall easier manage with ADAS features built into dash cam, especially when you can customize the sensitivity and speed trigger.

All three dash cams (S1 Pro Max, A229 and 2X E1 Pro) are in the same price range and within the budget I'm willing to spend on a dash cam right now. If true and Vantrue starts rolling out the S1 Pro Max with barrel rear camera design in 2026 then I'll pull the trigger on the S1 Pro Max (4K +2K) over both dash cams in the comparrison title.

We’ve already completed development and pilot production of the newly designed rear camera, but large-scale mass production will still take some time.

I plan on buying the S1 Pro Max (4K + 2K) version through AliExpress (Vantrue Official Store on AliExpress) when there's a sale. On the Vantrue app (Store tab), I can select Vantrue, Amazon and AliExpress for my region (Canada).

Because of where I live, I do not plan on setting up the dash cam in my car until at least the beginning of April because of the temperature. The best temperature to apply electrostatic film static on my tinted front windshield is 10 degrees celcius and the best time to apply VHB tape onto any surface is 20 degrees celcius, so I figure 15 degrees celcius is good middle ground.

I can send you my order details when I place my order from now until March 2026, and I keep checking on AliExpress to see if they've brought in the new barrel design rear cameras for the S1 Pro Max.

On a side note; does Vantrue plan on updating the voice warning for the ADAS warning system on the S1 Pro Max?

Current ADAS voice warning for S1 Pro Max sounds like heavily accented:
