each chipset has it's own characteristics, that doesn't mean they aren't addressable, more about what the defaults look like, Ambarella has a different look but they are not without their own problems either

if you want to compare the characteristics of the different chipsets then you would need hardware that has the same CMOS sensor and same lens in each as these also contribute to the end result

... also firmware/software which processing image has to be tuned equaly. I have seen two identical hardware units with differently tuned software giving different final video quality result.

That's certainly the case, the default settings for any given processor do have their own characteristics and will always need some adjustment to get the best out of them

I noticed that as well. Most of the times I can tell which processor is used just by looking at the video. Novatek is usually softer, with blown highlights and moderate to severe warping effect. Ambarella is sharp (higher res), good exposure but requires high bitrate. This is even before considering sensor and lens.

I disagree, videos shows exactly the opposite. Even with different lens, sensor and FW, if they have a Novatek chipset, they show the issue.

Part of the issue may come from incorrectly tuned firmware.
