Typically a dashcam uses the area covered by the road if you are on a straight flat road that extends to the horizon.

But as said above, it is part of the firmware configuration so the camera developer can change it, they may for example leave the very bottom off to avoid exposing for a dark black or bright white bonnet/hood instead of more important things and may include the hedges/verges at the sides but at a lower significance.

If you use it then you should expect daytime sky to be overexposed and the road and vehicle number plates to have better exposure and more detail than when using other modes, most of the time.
