Hello guys,

I ordered the 70mai A810S from the official 70mai store on AliExpress. Along with it, I also ordered a dedicated power supply for my car, which connects to the existing rain sensor.

After installation, I noticed that the dashcam would automatically reboot when the car was not running. From what I understood, this issue was related to the power supply (5V, 2A).

So I ordered a new hardwire kit with two wires connected to the fuse box. This one provides 5V 2.5A, which matches the specifications of the original charger included with the camera.

Now the problem is different: after I start driving, the camera works fine for about 25–30 minutes, and then it starts rebooting continuously.

Could you please help me understand what might be causing this issue? Could it still be related to the power supply? The SD card is new and 100% original.

Regards,
Vlad

Welcome to the forum Matadore.

Are you using a recommended memory card ?
If it is have you tried to test it on a PC, cuz some times a memory card is just a dud even if it is a good brand / model, i have experienced some die in 64 Gb and so just fill up 1 time.

The cards i have tested with the 810 S system. https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/a-810s-received.59392/#post-661855

A few of the cards failed round #1 of testing but a updated firmware fixed that

Hey Kamkar,

Well, i did not. But it never ever promted to format the SD card... so i guess it is not the SD card that is making the issue.. And i did try to pull the memory card out, and in rebooted the same... i would say even faster

As i recall the system ask for you to format the memory card if / when it fail, if your system just reboot, that is indeed strange.
Have you updated the firmware.
you could try and use the regular cigarette lighter power source, just to rule out power starvation, even if 2 bad power sources in a row should next to impossible.

I have been using the 4G modem / hard wire kit in my testing in the car, that is a regular 3 wire hardwire kit as we know them.
But the majority of my testing was static testing using a USB charger in my window sill in the living room

Not wanting to install system in car in the middle of winter as i have no warm / dry place to work.

Yes, the firmware is the latest version (1.5.40ww)provided by the 70mai support team.

I guess the last thing left to test is using the original cigarette lighter charger and cable that came with the camera.

This is very frustrating 🙂

Yes, error checking is never fun.
I assume the #2 hard wire kit you got was a 70mai one.
Some small brand USB multi port chargers ASO will claim so and so AMPS but not really delivering that, over the years creative use of power source have caused many problems for new dashcam owners.

I have myself run 2 multi port USB chargers in the car, and back then in the 1080p system days that worked just fine, need to do that CUZ some times i had 4-5-6 systems in the car

This is the 2-nd power line used , and i see in the comment section someone told, it is working just fine with 810s 🙂 i guess not for me 🙂)))

even if you have the two +12 V wires connection mixed up i would assume it should still work just fine just no parking guard then
The system should draw power from the always on 12 V wire, the ACC wire are just a signal wire.

Some cars can be problematic to connect things to, a few years ago i had to put a multi port USB charger in my friends Mercedes car, that should be a 15 minute job on such a fine summer day, but it ended up being a almost 2 hour job as that stupid car did all kinds of funny stuff with the different fuses or that is the one fuse i tried to tap into.

I think we have the unswer there... i guess i need to find a better power kit for it...

If it work on the 12 V socket power supply, then it must be the circuit / fuse you have tapped into for the constant 12 V supply that is funny, maybe shutting down or something, though if that was the case i would assume the system was on for the exactly same time before it would shut down.
But then if your system just reboot, then it do get power alright and the fuse / circuit can not be shutting down.

What car do you have ?

Yes i am inclined to think it is a power issue, but i would have thought the UP03 HW kit was just fine for that.

I have a 2020 BMW G20. The issue is that the original 70mai power kit only provides 5V / 2.0A output, which might not be sufficient for the A810S under load.

BMW i understand can be tricky some times.

I was just on 70mais own page, but for A810S it do not list a particular HW kit, and under accessories it have 3 hard wire kits, the one you have, the 4G one i have and then the one for OBD port connection.
but under the hard wire kits i can not click any of them to maybe see what models they support.

You could try another fuse for the always on connection, i just hope in your car you do not have to be a contortionist like in my little Suzuki car, and with 60 of age i am not at all as flexible as i use to be.

I'm sure the fuse and the fuse box are not the issue here. I suspect the power module might be overheating and causing the device to reboot.

At this point, I see two options:

  1. Buy the original 70mai hardwire power kit and test with that.
  2. Install a cigarette lighter socket kit connected to the fuse box, and then use the original 70mai car charger and cable that came with the dashcam.
What do you think would be the better approach?

you can do that with the 12 V plug power source, then you just need a female 12 V socket + a inline fuse for that, but then you can of course not have parking guard.

I have a 3 port 12 V adapter in my glove box so i have been able to test systems with the original power source, but it do of course take up a lot of room in there, but fortunately i have no other use for that.
Actually right now i also have the 70 mai power pack in there to use instead of the cars own battery during parking guard.

In general though i dont have much need for parking guard, have CCTV from my apartment on my parked car, so only when shopping do i need parking guard, and then i prefer the always record low bitrate and if possible on a 3 hour timer, and if that is not there i use the highest possible cut off voltage on the hard wire kit.

My almost micro Suzuki car have a battery to match, but i did upgrade the original 50 Ah battery to a 55 Ah one, that was all i could fit in the battery tray and the wires to the battery also 0 slack in them so would have to get very creative if i was to put a larger battery in another place, like for instance where the AC would be if my car had that.

BTW having 12 plug’s like that under the dash, no problem, aside for they might wiggle loose, but some ZIP ties or duct tape should make sure that do not happen.

It is a 3 socket 12 V adapter kinda like this i have rattling around in the glove box.
Connected to a 30 A fuse.
