Hey everyone!

The Vantrue E1 Pro S has officially launched! Since it's brand new, I'm sure a lot of you have questions about the specs, installation, features, how it compares to the older model, and what it's actually like to use.

So I figured I'd kick off an AMA! Feel free to ask me anything about the E1 Pro S, whether it's AOV, 1-Second Turbo Boost, PlatePix 2.0, parking mode, or even just whether it's worth buying.

I'll do my best to reply as quickly as I can. I'm pretty much always around, so fire away!

Drop your questions in the comments! 👇

What's the first thing you guys wanna know?

AOV looks like a new feature. What is it, and will it be enabled on other Vantrue dashcams, including older models?

I'm assuming that AOV is Angle of View which many people incorrectly refer to as FOV - Field of View.

Can you run us through all the new features compared to the original E1 Pro?

How do the new parking modes work? Any changes to power draw and wake up speeds for various modes?

Where does the LTE module plug in? In the GPS mount or the side of the dashcam? Can we use both LTE and GPS simultaneously now?

Have there been improvements to thermals to keep the dashcam running cooler?

Is the original E1 Pro being discontinued? What about the E1 and E1 Lite?

Any plans on a 2K IMX675 version?

What is the Novatek chipset used in this dashcam? Is it the newer NT98635?

Drop your questions
1.) What is the Novatek processor / chipset number?
E1 Pro: Novatek 98528
E1 Pro S: Novatek ?????

2.) What is maximum Bitrate?
E1 Pro: 32 Mbps
E1 Pro S: ???

3.) What is 1 Minute File Size?
E1 Pro: 232MB
E1 Pro S: ???

4.) E1 Pro PlatePix is too dark.
Did you fix this with PlatePix 2.0 for E1 Pro S?

5.) What is the Video Codec?
E1 Pro: H.264
E1 Pro S: ???

6.) Please post link to User Manual PDF?

6) embargo doesn't life until the 23rd Oct for the user manual on FCC filing.

The base size for a one-minute file is 260 MB.
Occasionally, it may spike up to 360 MB, though this is rare.

All observations are based on firmware version: E1PS_VT-EFI202

Thank you.
So this means it has Varable Bitrate right?
What are the Pro & Cons of Varable vs. Fixed Bitrate?
I remember the early firmware versions of A119 Mini 2 had Variable Bitrate, but it was eventually replaced with Fixed Bitrate.

Yes.
What are the Pro & Cons of Varable vs. Fixed Bitrate?

The bitrate increases during scenes like this.

50.3 Mb.s.webp

This, of course, improves the detail in the image.

As far as I recall, in early firmware versions for the A119 Mini 2, the 2560x1440 resolution used a variable bitrate,
which remained variable for the most part.
However, for the 2560x1080 resolution, they implemented a constant bitrate from the start.

Ooh, this looks fun and exciting! The E1 Pro remains one of my favorite cams due to its small size and awesome video quality. I’m very curious to see how PlatePix2 compares to the original, and how the variable bit rate impacts image quality. There’s an empty space next to my E1 Pro just waiting for a Pro S for a side by side comparison (hint, hint…) 😉

That's not what I mean.
Let me see if I can better explain this question;
You mean overall differences between continuous and variable birate?

VBR dynamically adjusts things as needed. Tthe more motion there is, the higher of a bitrate you need. The more static the frame is (ie. if you're sitting at a red light and no much is changing around you), the less change there is from one frame to another and thus the more compression you can use to get smaller file sizes.

CBR is a simpler approach by keeping the bitrate fixed. This makes it easier to compare dashcams directly (dashcam A records at 65 Mb/s while dashcam B records at 40 Mb/s, so dashcam A should have better video quality!), while VBR adjusts to the situation as needed. It's a more thoughtful approach IMO, but it makes things harder to compare based on numbers alone.

This is an awesome explainer if you haven't seen it before:

Yes, thank you, we’re getting closer.
But, I still have questions.
I don’t want to go off topic, so I’m going to make a separate post.
I’m going to call it;

Variable Bitrate vs. Fixed Bitrate - Which Is Best? (Pros & Cons)

I’m still working on the post.

AOV looks like a new feature. What is it, and will it be enabled on other Vantrue dashcams, including older models?
AOV = Always On Video
After enabling this function, the main unit enters a low-power mode and records video at 1 frame per second or 1 frame every 2 seconds. When a collision is detected, it switches to normal recording mode. The key features are low power consumption and continuous recording. This function is hardware-related, so older models do not support it.

Hi sir.
The features and Parking Monitoring modes of the E1 Pro S can be found in the detailed electronic user manual.

Compared with the E1 Pro, the E1 Pro S has significant improvements in power consumption and wake-up speed. The current flagship feature is the TurboBoot fast-start function.

The LTE function is currently under debugging and is not supported by the existing software. It is expected to be released by the end of this year. The interface is the same as the E1 Pro and is located on the main unit.

Compared with the E1 Pro, the E1 Pro S has improved heat performance, mainly thanks to the new SoC.

The E1 Pro, E1, and E1 Lite will not be discontinued for the time being. We will evaluate whether to add a 2K IMX675 version based on market demand.
