There's a few good dashcam clips on this site.

Since these clips are being used to advertise a particular brand of dashcam, I wonder if the manufacturers paid for their use?

We can only speculate but if it was some advertisement money involved then I think it was this way:

1. accident was just random, like they all happends without any thought of dashcam driver to earn money from this. Nobody want to live trough even minor accident.

2. after accident, the VW guy contacted dashcam manufacturer and offered a "deal" to negotiate with reporter to post this situation to the public along with advertising brand name.

3. Dashcam manufacturer agreed and paid some $ to reporter and to VW driver.

4. All 3 parties are in win-win situation ... "and since then they lived happily ever after" πŸ™‚

If it was like this, then big credits to VW driver who saw oportunity to "get back" money he paid for dashcam on the first place πŸ˜‰

with our last camera I found that people often would contact us wanting to share video whenever they caught something interesting, the more cameras you have out there the more of this type of thing you'll get

for our new product we have our logo as a watermark in the video (not obtrusive and a menu option allows you to turn it off, before anyone gets upset) and we'll be doing something to reimburse people in certain situations where the video had the watermark turned on so there may be situations where something happening could earn you back the purchase price etc, will talk more about that once we release the cameras

Or maybe offer a small 'incentive' to put the watermark in afterwards, prior to the video going on youtube? (easy to insert a pic with most video editing software)
I'm thinking along the lines of 'credits' for every video where maybe these could be turned into cash or gift vouchers ( or discount off next purchase). Obviously the more 'interesting' the content, the larger the 'incentive'? So, in a case where the insurance says "50/50" and the footage PROVES non-fault (as in the case of the above clip), then maybe refund the purchase price.
For something like my videos showing general stupidity, maybe offering 1 credit per clip where each credit is a % of the purchase price with additional credits offered for the "wow" or "Jeezus H Christ, that was close, WTF was that moron thinking" type clips πŸ˜€

still looking at different scenarios, our old camera had footage featured on TV, had we had a logo on there that would have been a big deal, that's worth money I feel once we can replicate that on our website, link to the story etc

I did not know you was going in that direction too jookin, but i approve a lot ( Again need thumbs up smily )

Allmost any kind of media exposure is good, and if the customers can help sell the product its only fair a little should fall off on them. πŸ™‚

GoPro is for the most part a marketing company, they give out product every day and spend a stack of money on sponsorships etc

True and it's paying off. As the CEO states in the video, people don't even have to see the camera to think its a GoPro. My thought relative to this thread was the power of seeing something in action. So you're idea is great

If I would ( God forbid ) get into some accident, then why not following same path of advertising / "getting paid "? - it's a win-win situation for everybody !
