Choice, the self-appointed Australian consumer advocate, reviewed dash-cams in its latest edition. There was no mention of Street Guardian. How could that be?

I found SG in 2015 after some unfortunate experiences with other brands that had good reviews for picture quality and low price. The problem was that they didn't work and the warranty was useless.

I had my 9665GC installed professionally by the mechanic who's assigned to my car at the SAAB specialist servicing company that's been looking after my cars for 30 years.

I had a few questions at the time, and Jokiin? (sorry, it was a long time ago) was brilliant. No bull. Straight answers. And it's not often that you get to talk to the owner of the company. I haven't been around here because my 9665GC is still performing brilliantly and I didn't have anything to say.

So why didn't Choice review SG?

cuz SG dident pay them to, or at least threw free cameras at them.

Please drop a link to the damn thing if you can, i would like to see what cameras they then feel are so brilliant.

not sure why they choose what they choose, I went to a Navman product launch a while back (invited by one of my dealers) and the guys from Choice were there also, lets just say I'm not disappointed to not have them looking at our cameras, their knowledge of cameras was very poor

No i can see a lits of 47 cameras, where a few of them are totally unknown to me.

Ha! That makes sense. I cancelled my membership about 15 years ago and rejoined about a year ago. I'm not quite sure why I rejoined. I probably thought that it was a good idea at the time. Or I was drunk.

Strange (or maybe not) but there's not even 1 'wedge' camera in their list.

It's clear from the outset that they don't have much knowledge or expertise here. And that's likely the same with nearly everything else they do. Here in the US we have "Consumer Reports" doing something similar. Long ago their opinions were highly regarded but they were testing far fewer products than they do now, and everything was far less complex so testing was easier to do. Over the years they made several bad recommendations and lost their vaunted status. The reason was the same- testers exceeding their field of knowledge and expertise- plus it seems that some sheer laziness also crept in. Not a recipe for success, but very commonplace these days

If you want to know about something you should research it yourself, not blindly believing what anyone else says just because they seem to know something about the subject or because someone else has certified them as being knowledgeable about it. Always follow your own course, not one set out by anyone else, because only those who are led can be misled ;)

I was a member for about a year and cancelled. Some of their reviews really show a lack technical knowledge eg. dash cams and aftermarket TPMS are two I can think of. Their reviews of consumer goods are usually better.
