Auto-vox provided this unit with a discount for review. I purchased it from amazon with that discount.

The product listing for this claims it is an upgraded A118C/B40C. The difference between this and the standard is the orange button, Auto-vox logo, and it has 1296p at 30 frames per second. The 1080p is still 30 frames per second. The bitrate of the 1080p footage is the same 14-15 mbps that my spytec A118C had, with the same video quality. The 1296p varied between 10-13 mbps. It made it slightly pixelated during fast motion, and a bit harder to read license plates with fast motion during 1296p. When pausing while driving fast, it was often somewhat blurry on the sides compared to most higher bitrate cams.

My review only includes the 1296p footage because I noticed the 1080p was the same. I will provide a link to my original A118C review below too if you are interested in my opinions on the camera in 1080p30. Since youtube does not support 1296p here are raw file downloads of several day and night samples:

I opened up the camera out of curiosity since the product page did not say its specs. It uses the same Novatek 96650 chipset in the "upgraded" model, which would explain why the 1296p is lower bitrate than the 1080p.

In the end, if someone is still thinking of buying the A118C it might be worth considering for just a few bucks more than the standard A118C, but it is pretty much the same camera with an extra lower bitrate 1296p mode option. For $20 more you can get an A119 which I would buy myself if I had to choose.

Original A118C Review:

it's a firmware 'upgrade' of sorts over the regular version, same hardware so still has the same limitations of their regular generic version
