Hey all
I have a BlackVue DR750 2CH LTE I got when I bought my car in 2021. A while back, it started acting up and I can now confidently say it's dead, so I'm looking at replacements.
I've narrowed it down to the Thinkware U3000, or the BlackVue DR970 (either LTE, just wifi or the one with the separate box).
I don't have the greatest knowledge when it comes to stuff like this, so I was wondering what your guys's input would be?
Which one has a better image (most importantly the readability of license plates in case I would ever need that), low-light performance, cloud platform, ...
I watched a dozen video's on YouTube but the results seem to always be different, so I'm really not sure.
Cloud connectivity is really important. Being able to remote into the camera to download or view files or get notifications when something were to happen.
I also like being able to press a button to record an event while I'm driving.
I liked BlackVue for this, but I'm just a bit wary splurging on one of their camera's again when my current one didn't last me all that long. Small bonus is I might be able to re-use my existing rear camera (I don't care as much about video quality in the rear) and thus save by getting a 1CH model.
BlackVue has LTE models, as well as a separate LTE modem. My understanding is the U3000 will need a wifi hotspot.
BlackVue can also support 3 wifi networks (for example use LTE but switch to my home wifi when I'm home), I don't know if Thinkware can do that.
I don't know if there's a difference in quality between the different BV 970 camera's (LTE model, wifi model or the box model) or if the sensors are all identical. I would only consider the wifi model because perhaps wifi + a separate wifi hotspot (which I'd have to get for the Thinkware as well) might be cheaper, but I don't know how well that would work.
I know my BV also has direct wifi access which I do like but is not a must. I did read the Thinkware has really low energy consumption in parking mode, which my old BV definitely did not.
Thank you so much for your input!!
Warmest regards
