BP100 + A329S Paring Tutorial

Hi Chuck,

You're not the only one who managed to do that. It happened to me too—my battery pack connected to the dashcam in my second car. It was only noticed after the last update, because the battery pack wasn't found under the battery protection settings.

It took the new VIOFO app 2.2, where the battery is now integrated, to reveal the problem. In the app, I was then able to select the correct dashcam for the battery.

Thank you.
Can you also SUBMIT A TICKET to report this malfunction.
VIOFO should see the malfunction from an Android customer too.

proper manual
User Manuals are written 12-18 months before fully finished retail units are sold to customers.
During those 12-18 months the unit has received numerous firmware updates introducing completely new functions / features.
The whole business of Bluetooth Pairing to A329S with all these cool new functions was still in the oven while hardware was fully baked.
Basically VIOFO rushes out the door “finished hardware” with “unfinished software” because they want to be first to market, and they know they can roll out firmware updates at their luxury.
I know it’s not right, but market competition is so fierce that’s what all manufacturer do.
I have several rants here about the “golden era of 80’s Japanese consumer electronics” that just plain worked right out of the box, and trouble free for 10, 20, 30, 40 years with no firmware update 🤣
That’s because they fully funded proper R&D and QC.
Now a days it's cheaper & easier to have paying customers become unwitting / unpaid developers, and quality control inspectors.

So... what are the chances someone in a car nearby trying to pair/view the cam or the battery and pairing mine hardware instead?
It's also very unlikely because your BP100 must first be put into pairing mode (5-press) and you do that when you are trying to pair your app. Anything else is a bug (perhaps in the UI or the device).

It's the same risk you take with your phone and pairing Bluetooth device like headphones - Someone else looking at their phone's Bluetooth at the same time might also pair it instead, but you'll notice it fail and then factory reset your device before trying again.

put into pairing mode (5-press)
I don't think "pressing power button 5 times" puts BP100 in pairing mode.
I thought pressing power button 5 times "unpairs any previous device" like a reset.
I need to get clarification on this.

Pressing the power button 5-times quickly while the unit is powered on will only remove any Bluetooth pairing the BP100 has with a phone/tablet.

After the clearing of any previous pairing, the BP100 passively waits for another device to connect to it with the VIOFO Battery or the updated VIOFO Dashcam app. When you select that BP100 from the list of available battery pack(s), the pairing/binding of the BP100 with that one phone/tablet will take place.

The pairing/binding operation appears to be based solely within the BP100 itself. While my iPhone 15 Plus was paired/bound with the BP100, I reviewed "Settings > Bluetooth > My Devices" list of devices. The BP100 was not present in that list as a known device.

This suggests the BP100 is obtaining the Bluetooth MAC ID of the device it's paired/bound with and uses that to validate Bluetooth traffic/requests from a VIOFO Dashcam/Battery app. That's why you're only required to press the BP100 power button 5-times quickly to unpair/unbind the BP100 from a phone/tablet. You don't need to remove any phone/tablet Bluetooth "device" pairing info as well.

You also have the choice of using the VIOFO Dashcam/Battery app to unbind as well.
