Anyone have any good mounts/ideas for mounting on the exterior of the vehicle, bumper or roof? I wouldnt trust the window suction cup...

I'll avoid the question as to why you want it on the outside. However, is this a permanent or semi-permanent mount? If so, you might want to try the helmet mount. I removed the strap and just used the adhesive for my windshield mount.
Depending on the bumper style or existence of roof rails, you might be able to use the helmet mount with the straps too.

Look for "kamkar" on these forums; he does an outside mount fairly often. There is merit in getting the windshield out of the picture, but there are problems too.

I will have a gander for this guy

I am getting a new downpipe, and my mates getting a new exhaust so want to stick it to the rear and side of the car for small noise/driving videos. Would you avoid those GoPro surf board style suction mounts?

Ah, got it! I'm not familiar with the GoPro surf mounts but I have had trouble with the mobius suction cup mounts. If the surf mount has a grippy suction cup like the iOttie phone mounts, then I'd be OK with it. Those iOttie mounts really really stick good but also come off easy too. They have some kind of silicon or gel on the suction cup that really holds great!
