So CES is a wrap. It was great getting to hang out with @rcg530, @SafeDriveSolutions, and @Chuck McCoy again. 🙂

I just finished my summary video going over all the interesting tech I found at the show, starting off with the different dashcams.

There were definitely fewer dashcam companies at CES, plus many that were there were also just at SEMA so we already got to see what they were showing off, but I still found several companies that were only here at CES, plus some companies who were at SEMA yet had some new stuff to show at CES too.

Will be an interesting year ahead, I'm definitely down for the 10000mah battery from Vantrue. I personally aren't sold on things like 360 cameras and thermal cameras, but kudos to these companies for at least trying something new.

Yeah I know it's only 1080p imx662, but props to 70mai for throwing their hat into the telephoto ring this year.

Thanks for a great summary of so many stands and products. Interesting to hear that you were tired of AI by the end of it all! As you said, I'm curious to see what will stick around and what will fall by the wayside over time. Maybe Aukey's fan-cooled phone mount will become a fan-cooled dashcam mount one day?

If that red tiger battery also have the GPS in the battery it would be excellent, CUZ of your car get stolen and the thief disable the cameras, you could then still track your car.

I have sort of requested this not long ago wanting to move GPS into 4G modem, though of course that is also right there on the glass and so easy disabled.
But still a less obvious thing than the cameras.

Like Vantrue getting on board with batteries, and also intrigued by the thermal thing.

DDPAI's booth was pretty interesting. I learned some interesting stuff about their Z90 Master series, took a look at their upcoming prototype for their 360 fisheye cam, and checked out their AI which might be one of the first potentially useful implementations of AI in a dashcam I've seen yet.

Here's a short on the Z90 Master:

Some interesting products there, especially with the AI search it seems like a great feature to quickly find clips.

There are two things that could be improved with DDPAI products from my experience.
1. There is no button to lock videos. The only way to lock a video is via voice command. I suggested they allow a double-press of a button to lock a video.
2. The cables do get quite messy compared to other 3-CH units. This of course has to do with the way they connect. The Y cable (if used with the 4G module) has a quite thick connector that is hard to hide behind the headliner.

Saw the Z90 Master announced a few months ago in Saudi I think it was. Turned off again by the fact it's 25fps with one of the channels. That's the reason I turned down the Z60 Pro previously because of the same issues. Doesn't mean anything if they are running the interior camera separately over WiFi when the other units can't handle it all.

Oh wow yeah. That's an important and necessary feature.

That's a good point.

So the 25fps thing was a bit confusing and I've had a few discussions about that with them both in person and via email. We were discussing the Z90 series specifically where some places say 30 fps for the rear cam while other places say 25 fps. They said it supports both frame rates and you can select different options based on what you need. I haven't looked at the Z60 series for this specifically though. Either way, their documentation is a bit inconsistent and confusing in this regard.

This year was the first time a company has specifically asked me not to shoot videos of products currently for sale and on display at their booth and share the video online. It was at Pelsee's booth when we went over their product line and I found that almost every dashcam on display was a fake 4K model. They were upset and understandably seemed scared about me publicly disclosing that info, saying that lots of other companies do that too as if that makes it okay. They must have asked me a good 10-20 times not to share about this, but I do think it's important that people know the truth, especially considering all the models they had on display are again already available for sale and have been for a while. They could always ask me not to shoot the products on display there and I would respect their wishes if that's what it ultimately came down to, but I could also share screenshots of the products from their website as well as buy the products directly to show people first hand, so trying to prevent me from doing product videos while there wouldn't stop people from learning what the company was doing, plus I think it would have made things even worse for them in the end.

Long story short, we talked for a while and eventually someone else came over who, IIRC, is the owner of the company. He shared that they're working on new dashcams that are real 4K models and while they didn't bring any of them to CES, they plan on updating their entire product line to feature real 4K models. I'm not sure if that's really their plan or if it was a bit of damage control, and I didn't ask what their plan is regarding informing their current customers who've purchased their fake 4K models, but I do hope that they are going to be more honest with their next line of dashcams. Time will tell.

I also did some testing with the P12 Pro Max which was their one real 4K model on display. It's a RVM dashcam with an IMX678 for the front and an IMX335 for the rear. It's got some features like BSM detection for cars that don't have it. They also had a setup for parking mode testing. I really liked their low power draw while idling and asleep in low power parking mode, but I didn't like that it took ~10 sec to wake up after it detects an impact.

I get that there's some people who want these styles of dashcams mostly for their backup cam and digital RVM capabilities, but I still have yet to find one that's good at that AND is a good dashcam too.

I was there as @Vortex Radar was talking with the Pelsee rep(s). Ariel was very professional and respectful in all of his interactions with Pelsee. It will be interesting to see if Pelsee follows through on the promised revision of their product line to have all 4K dash cameras be true 4K dash cameras.

Thanks! Yeah that was definitely an interesting situation to be very clear on my stance on things and also trying to calm them down so we could move forward... 🙂 It was great getting to walk through the show with you!

Here's a quick look at some of Lingdu / Lndu and Azdome's dashcams. The most interesting one I found is the upcoming M350 which has Apple Find My built in so it behaves like an AirTag, making it easier to locate your vehicle.

Or find your stolen dashcam!

Just finished putting together on the Insta360 X5. They had some on display at the show so I chatted with a guy there who uses his to make lots of audio videos and we ran through the different settings and options available to see how closely we could turn it into a 360 degree dashcam.

Appreciate that. In addition to voice commands, file and photo locking can also be triggered using a bluetooth remote control. As for the thick 4G cable, we have noted this issue and are planning a new 4G solution to address it in the future.

We’re sorry to hear that the Z90 Master doesn't meet your expectations. While its rear cam records in 25fps. the Z60 Pro, Z90 Pro, and Z90 all support 30 fps across all channels.
