Looking to buy a dashcam setup but need clear definition first of single channel vs. multi channel dashcams.

Is a single channel dashcam always ONLY having one lens that records?

Or can a single channel dashcam have more than one lens (for example, the body of the dashcam having two lenses, one on the front and one on the back of the unit to record information from both directions)?

Or does the term single channel dashcams simply mean you are buying a one piece unit that can have any number of lenses on it to record front, back, side, etc?

Single channel means that it records one video file from one sensor.

If the body of the dashcam has two lenses then that would normally be called a dual dashcam, or a taxi-cam.

Dual channel dashcams normally have a single lens in the body + a second lens in a separate body mounted on the rear window, but could have the two lenses in the same body.

Multi-channel dashcams have more than one lens/sensor, so would include dual channel dashcams, but the term is normally used for three channel dashcams where one or more of the channels is optional.
