I have 5% tint on my back glass and that is on top of the already factory tint on there. In the day the dash cam is fine and recordings are clear. At nights you can’t really see anything. What are some options here ? I was thinking of cutting a small hole in the tint but it may not look pleasing. For reference I have a 1080p BlackVue rear cam.

I would like to know whether any camera maker has solved this issue. I have 5% on my back glass and side windows behind the driver. Driver and passenger windows are 15%; the windshield is 50%; a 6-inch strip of 5% runs along the top, all of this on top of factory tint. So I am looking for a camera system that can handle this level of tint.

Not as far as I know. What I did is cut out a 3x3 in a shape and that works perfect for me. Because of the factory tint, you cant see anything from outside. From the inside yes, you can see a small portion only because the dash cam itself is covering most of the cut out. So far the tint has not peeled. Also, I could care less if it did or how it looks from the inside. I am more concerned about getting proper footage.

For that option to work, to do everything I want, would require a cutout in the rear glass and the windshield. Then, for the interior camera to view 360 degrees, which is the reason I want an interior camera, the side windows would become an issue. One would think someone would address this issue. I know that you and I are not the only people with dark tint.

Tint is essentially a filter, like a CPL, but it filters light differently. I don't know that a lens manufacturer, CMOS manufacturer, or dashcam manufacturer is able to work around the reduced light transmission...especially at night. Other than mount an external, water proof camera.

Exactly! If there's no light coming in, there's nothing to record. Sensors (and film from back in the day) have limitations.

Based on this information, it looks like I need to just buy a new front camera. So based on the new criteria, what should I buy?
4K
small footprint
LTE
auto-upload of any issues to the cloud
screen not needed, as I would use my computer or phone
