【Recording Angle of View】It is not much different from the A329. (I have not actually measured it)There is a clear difference compared to the ZDR065. (According to the specs, the horizontal angle is 138°)
【Resolution and Frame Rate】You can select a high resolution of up to 2592x1944P with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which exceeds WQHD (2.5K) and offers a wider field of view (expanding vertically).It features 30FPS and 60FPS modes. However, if HDR is turned on, 60FPS cannot be selected regardless of the resolution. If you turn HDR off, you can select 2.5K at 60FPS.That said, the 60FPS mode has noticeable compression noise, so it is not suitable for capturing scenery.
【Image Correction】HDR can be selected. During the day, a moderately strong correction kicks in during high-contrast situations, such as when exiting a tunnel. However, there is a critical downside: when driving in direct sunlight, the license plates of oncoming vehicles can appear doubled due to the HDR correction, making them unreadable. Nevertheless, this same phenomenon occurs with major well-known brands, so it is not an issue unique to this model.Overall, I felt the naturalness of the HDR correction (such as the transitions between corrected areas) was excellent. (Compared to the A119V3)
【Audio Quality】This is a recent concern of mine; for some reason, recent dashcams tend to have worse audio quality compared to older models. Evaluating it with that in mind, the audio quality is not the absolute worst, but it is not good either. When the turn signal is activated, the audio becomes distorted due to compression noise.
【Boot Speed】At around 12 seconds, it is slightly slow or average. (The ZDR065 is in a completely different dimension of speed, so I did not use it as a point of comparison)
【Overall Daytime Image Balance】I felt there were some issues with the white balance and the intensity of the sharpness. My very first impression upon watching the recorded footage felt a bit off.The video has a bluish tint, and I felt it would be better if the colors were a bit warmer and the sharpness was softened slightly.I had high expectations for this as the successor to the A119V3, but overall, the darkness of the footage stood out more than in reality, resulting in a lot of crushed blacks. (Personally, I feel the A119V3 offers a stable and refined image quality)
【License Plate Readability (Daytime) (Front/Rear, When Passing Oncoming Vehicles)】The license plates of stationary vehicles ahead can be read reasonably well. Due to the angle of view and other factors, I think it ranks on the lower side among Viofo dashcams.As for oncoming vehicles, as mentioned earlier, the HDR correction can cause ghosting/doubling, sometimes making the plates impossible to read.
【Overall Nighttime Image Balance】In urban areas, it gave the impression that the brightness was scaled back too much.However, in situations where the headlights were turned off, I felt it was moderately bright.Considering the potential of the image sensor, I felt there was room to make it a bit brighter.
【License Plate Readability (Nighttime) (Front/Rear)】I felt the license plate readability was highly accurate, not only when the headlights were not shining on them, but also when the headlight beams reflected off the plates.
Final Thoughts】I think this dashcam is a viable option if you use it for license plate recognition at EV-1.It would be very convenient if it had a feature to automatically switch the EV value between daytime and nighttime...I am not used to writing reviews, so please forgive me if some parts sound a bit odd.Thank you very much for reading my review.
