DR970X Plus gets HDR, firmware 2.002

My 970x plus couldn’t even handle a Canberra spring before overheating. CPU got to over 100c. I have 900x plus 0 issues. Blackvue Australia replaced and the did say the temperature threshold is lesson the 970x plus compared to 900x plus
Hence why I’m leaning towards the 970 Box version – I’m in Perth and if the standard 970 units are shutting down,as reported, at the lower end of the scale then I’m not sure how they’re going to fair with stretches of 40°–46° outside temps..! Not sure I can entertain a camera shutting down at potentially inopportune moments, waiting to come back up, etc…not to mention a probable shortened lifespan….
The Box units just seem a no brainier to me for numerous reasons – get all the sensitive stuff tucked away….Smaller cams and less clutter at the windscreen too. Bit more wiring at install, but….

But that sign is the Burger King sign! Or maybe the McDonalds sign?

Why are counterfeits the chinese dascams? Viofo is a dashcam leader and it is a Chinese manufacturer. Is Viofo a counterfeiter?
good

@Xuqi99 thanks for sharing the footage. Your footage like absolutely grainy on my 4K 32" monitor (please open the full image to view the grain). This is unacceptable on a dashcam in this price range, where Chinese counterfeits are getting better quality with third of the price.

@Vortex Radar any news regarding the changes in the II model? I just sent my 970X Plus LTE to Blackvue, as it started randomly dying or randomly saying "Please insert SIM card", even though it has one and the Cloud features work. If they offer a replacement, I might ask them to upgrade to the II (and pay the delta), however not sure if its worth it. I spent so much on this dashcam and I'm super disappointed.
viofo is leader

I'm finally started using the car that had major engine problems for dash camera testing again. I upgraded the DR970X-2CH Plus dash camera firmware from 1.009 to 2.005. I have three VIOFO dash cameras in that same car [A229 Pro 3CH, A329S 3CH, A229 Ultra 2CH].

For the DR970X Plus, I have frame grabs from a location just outside of my local post office from when it had 1.009 firmware and from today with 2.005 firmware. I also have from grabs from the VIOFO dash cameras from today. All VIOFO dash cameras have the "latest" firmware installed. HDR is enabled for the VIOFO dash cameras. The VIOFO dash cameras have CPL filters on the front cameras. The DR970X Plus front REALLY needs a BlackVue CPL filter, but Pittasoft still doesn't sell a CPL filter for that model nor the "Box" models.

The rear deck area behind my car's rear seat has a "black" sheet to try and minimize the reflections in the rear window glass. As you can see, that sheet is so faded by sun exposure that it doesn't help and may in fact hurt the image by causing its own reflection in the window glass. I've corrected that situation for future drives by simply flipping the sheet.

Yes, all dash cameras were set to the maximum bitrate setting. I added that info to my post.
There are some third party CPL's for Blackvues that you can pick up.
When the DR970X Plus model was released Pittasoft hinted that CPLs would be available at some point. That never happened. I usually avoid third party CPLs, to avoid any finger pointing about the image quality. The BlackVue France website sells a CPL filter for it, but it looks like I will have to get a third party CPL at this point.

Ghosting effect (on older firmware the street lighting overhead would leave a ghost trail whilst in motion) is now reduced but overall quality seems very grainy now, to the point you can't make out any number plates of close vehicles whilst in motion..
toooo bad

Where? And are they any good..?

It’s quite strange BlackVue haven’t sorted this…
I want to get the 970 Box edition and, being in Australia, figure some CPL would be a real benefit, but with the Box cameras being a different design to the standard 970 devices, there seems to be even less chance of a CPL solution…

Actually, as a follow up to my post just earlier – Don’t know if this is a recent change, but just seen that BlackVue Australia has stock of all the CPL filters: 970 Plus, LTE, Rear, etc….Of course, nothing for the Box listed, as I don’t think they ever designed one…They designed a nice new Fleeta website for all those vehicles running around with Box installs though…! 🙄

I bought a CPL filter from Aliexpress for my 970 Plus LTE, haven't installed it yet - will let you know afterwards how it looks like. I am a bit hesitant because it says on the box that if the windshield has UV protection layer then the image will be all in rainbow colors 😀 And I have heated + athermic windshield, so my hopes are low actually.

why the 970x plus Ⅱ video is soooo dark

Could this be a ploy to entice people to upgrade to the Plus II dashcams? Intentionally downgrading dashcam by providing an "upgrade" ? You know , the things Apple, Samsung and others does, alike ?
970plus Ⅱ is same terrible also

I bought a CPL from Blackvue here in Australia. Looks 3d printed

I got 2 of these for the BlackVue Elite 8 (has same size lense to the DR970X Plus LTE)

I recommend them.
They're push fit on, with a rubber trim on the inside of the retaining ring. And they're also twist adjustable so the outer ring filter spins and can be adjusted to your best custom adjustment (better than fixed position CPL filters).

They look good. About as OEM looking as you’re going to get I think…
Hopefully the glass quality is up to, er, scratch…🤣
Rotation adjustment is good, though a fixed 90° would remove the temptation to keep fiddling and checking..!

No doubt they don’t do a version for the 970 Box, no one seems to..! I’ve messaged the store through that Ali link, see if they come back with anything…
