You should have put those gold connectors on the mount, not the camera, so it would be quick to remove.

I suspect part of the reason for this is they expect it to be permanently kept in the car, and the cables in the main unit makes it possible to use the optional security bracket which keeps all the cables plugged in, and sd card.

Yes I agree. It just would be nice when parking somewhere bad and chances of it getting stolen outweigh recording something in parking mode.
