Extracting GPS information from Garmin AVI videos

We just got a Garmin Dash Cam 20 and sadly realized that the GPS information is embeded in the AVI file.

I am wondering if there are any developers here or others more known in this community that could help me out with some information on how its embeded.

I am a developer tasked to write a small program that can extract the GPS information from the videos. Any help is much valued.
 
choose a camera that is supported by Regsitrator Viewer and you can extract the files no problem, a lot of Ambarella based cameras also create an NMEA text file already
