Congratulations you manged to figure out on your own that the video was on proper window installation. I'm not sure what exactly gave it away for you. Maybe it was the title of the video. Or it could have been the fact that it was mentioned in the video itself... it could have been the combination, I don't know.

The point is, after watching the force of a air bag deployment against a windshield that isn't intact. Just how much of a crack in a windshield is needed before it compromises the performance of an airbag?

I call BS on that video.
The first car had a fully intact dashboard. The airbag pod would be installed as per spec - designed to pop out in a certain way - towards the occupant.
That second car had no dashboard, the airbag pod probably wasn't even secured properly & looked as though the airbag was installed to intentionally deploy into the windscreen.

That demonstration video was staged by an auto glass repair chain to demonstrate the importance of properly-installed windshields. Presumably to deter people from getting a windshield installed at some cut-rate shop, which may or may not do a good job.

The first car airbag deployment managed to smash the windshield, even if it didn't break through it, or pop the windshield out. The question relevant here is: if the windshield was cracked to begin with, would that prevent proper airbag deployment/function/support?

Here's my opinion: if the windshield is cracked, it'll have less integrity in a crash. But since windshields are laminated (i.e. plastic film on the inside, glass on the outside), I would be surprised if windshield cracks would prevent proper airbag function-- even with the window smashing to bits, the plastic should hold it together.

As I said already, if your windscreen was that badly cracked it should be replaced anyway, nothing to do with airbags or not

I have a chip in my windscreen right in front of the driver, it have been there since my car was 5 month old ( another proof i am not burdened with luck )

Anyway i pretend its a crosshair and use it to eleminate bad drivers on the Danish roads, some times its a sniper rifle, and other times its a rocket launcher, and if its really bad i call in a B52 airstrike.
Depend on my mood and the level of poor driving that go on in front of me. πŸ˜›

Still the same size after all this time? You are not driving fast enough then.
 
Yeah and the first year of the chips life i even used hot water to defrost my windscreen in the winter time, i dont do good with cold weather, so whatever get me into a "warm" car quick is preferred.

Suzukis must be made of good stuff, unlike my friends Dodge ram charger witch broke its brand new windscreen before it was installed πŸ™„

Guess danish car shops cant handle American cars, or just have forgotten to install windows that is not just glued in place.

The Right 1/5 of the Dodge window is completely detached from the rest of the window with a vertical crack thru the whole window 😳 and i am perplexed as to why my friend dident feck up the guy witch still charged mony for "installing" the window.
Not easy to find Dodge ram charger windows here in little Denmark, the new one allso came care of the motherland and wasent cheap with all factored in.

PS. I dont even do 130 km/h where its allowed, i keep right and make do with 110 - 120 km/h
 
in most of the crashed cars i've seen (which is a lot, having been a mechanic and a junkyard crawler) when the airbag deploys, the cover of the airbag is what breaks the glass. the airbag unit is bolted to the framework of the dash itself. it does not rely on there being a windshield at all. why should it? the dashboard (or steering wheel) is what absorbs the energy of the person hitting the airbag.

the video about improper windshield installation is only to illustrate that an improper install can cause additional injuries during a crash. the windshield itself could become a projectile and/or shrapnel if it comes loose.

Once ( first time it aired here ) i told a "friend" my opinion on ppl who is on big brother, and what i think of ppl who watch it on tv.

The guy dident talk to me for a year πŸ˜›
