I have the A229 Plus and having a problem with the file. I have the bin file loaded, but I am not able to bring the two files up that should be in the folder, one for front cam and other for rear cam. I have loaded other firmware files to the cam several months ago, but this one is giving me issues. I did format the SD card, but did not make any difference. I am running v1.3_240516;v1.3_240514

Any ideas?

Except for formatting the card to FAT32, please make sure there is no any symbols behind the firmware file name after you copy it to the root of your card, such as (1) or (2).

As @VIOFO-Support stated, make sure the microSD card has been formatted with a FAT32 file system before copying the two firmware "bin" files to the root directory of the microSD card file system. I use a separate 32GB microSD card for this purpose which allows me to retain all of the files on the "regular use" microSD card for that dash camera.

The front camera firmware filename should be "FWA229S.bin" (minus the quotes). The rear camera filename should be "EthcamTxFW.bin" (minus the quotes). Install the microSD card into the dash camera and power it up. The leftmost LED should start quickly blinking indicating it's located the front camera firmware file and the front camera firmware is being updated.

When the updating of the front camera firmware completes, it will reboot the dash camera and it [may] prompt your to select the camera's language, time zone and then it may prompt to format the microSD card. You need to answer no to the formatting since that will wipe away the rear camera firmware file that has yet to be installed. Once the dash camera has fully booted up, it will detect the presence of the "EthcamTxFW.bin" on the microSD card and it will initiate the rear camera firmware update process.

VIOFO reorganized their user manual and firmware download pages several weeks ago. You go to the https://www.viofo.com/pages/firmware page and then click on "A229 Plus" on the left hand side of that page. On the right side of the page, you will see an entry for the front and rear camera firmware files. You click on the "Download" link for each firmware file, which downloads that particular firmware file to your computer. When you download the file, you might be prompted by your browser to select what folder to download bin file into (sometimes your browser will default to a "Downloads" directory on your computer without prompting you).

Once both files have been downloaded from the VIOFO website to your computer, you use the file copy process shown in the VIOFO video to copy and then paste the two bin files onto the microSD card's root directory.

I’ve never had issue updating firmware using SD Card method.
But, consumers keep having difficulty.
Can we have “true” OTA firmware updates?
Is this an unreasonable request?

Well, I apologize for taking everyone’s time! It’s kind of embarrassing, but as I was double checking all of my steps, turns out I have the A229 PRO, not a plus ! No wonder it was not working. I wonder if a pop up message should be written into the firmware that would give a warning that’s it’s the wrong version for the plus…

Again, appreciate everyone’s input!

That's too funny.
No apology needed.
Would you still like OTA firmware updates?
I don't see how you could mix up the cameras with that method. lol

This is fantastic!
1. Could a mod possibly pin this to the top? As a noob, this info was hard to come by, the Viofo website instructions are very unclear
2. What about the interior camera firmware?

VIOFO does have a video showing the process (in general) using the an A229 Pro instead of an A229 Plus. A link to that video is present in post #4 of this thread.
2. What about the interior camera firmware?
The interior camera does not have its own firmware. The front camera handles the front camera video and the interior camera video.

Why 32GB BTW? The files are like 70MB combined

BTW my point here was not that the information doesn't exist, just harder to find than it should have been IMHO - a pinned post at the top of this forum about firmware installation could contain your great explanation above, aa well as a link to the video (which a noob like me wouldn't be sure applies to the Plus as well).
