Vantrue E1 Pro
Just received my E1 Pro, trying to setup in the house before mounting to the vehicle. Can’t get it to power on. I’ve tried my Apple IPad Pro charger and plugged it into the side of the camera and I’ve tried attaching the mount and plugging into that, still won’t turn on. Can you use a regular USB C charger or does it need to be the vantrue included DC cable? (Clearly stupid if you do). As these don’t have batteries in them, do they hold a limited charge at all?

Or do I just have a dead unit? Any help appreciated.

just a guess on my part, but it's possible that although the camera receptacle is type c, they haven't fully implemented the type c protocol. One thing about type C that trips people up is that there isn't one fixed voltage used - instead, when you connect a type c charger, it tries to talk to the device you're plugging it into to agree on what voltage and current it should output - and if it doesn't get a response, it'll failsafe - either by using type a standard 5v at 2.4a max, or by just not providing any output - which may be what you're running into. If you have an older type A charge and an A to C cord, try that - it's quite likely to work.

Figured it and got it working. Turns out the magnetic attachment between the camera and the mount wasn’t fully connected, had to give it an extra push until it clicked in. USB on mount works fine now, USB on camera must be just a data port. Thanks all!
