sucks battery life is only 15 minutes but that is still amazing. ill just hardwire mine with a cable short enough to pass under any bridges i drive under. πŸ˜‰

Hexoplus will have to strong markets: sport / action sport and Hollywood ( movie industry ).

well you know what they say......its much less bother with a hover............lets not moan about the drone

I like this idea!........but I can see where battery life would be a problem with a multi-rotor drone. I think I'm going to mount a dash cam on a kite or a balloon with a power line instead of a string and fly it above and behind my car! πŸ˜› Who needs high-tech?!

This is quite true but as innovative and as cool as it is, the Hexoplus is merely a hobbyist's "toy" compared to the kind of octocopters being used by professionals to shoot sports and Hollywood films. They are called "Heavy Lift Platforms" as they can carry larger professional cameras and recording devices. They use very sophisticated radios, super high end gimbals/damping, advanced GPS systems and have battery power for extended shooting. There are several competitors in the business with the primary ones DJI, Versadrones and Heliguy.

Octocopters provided by Heliguy were used extensively to shoot athletes at the Winter Olympics at Sochi and used recently in major motion pictures and TV productions such as Game of Thrones. Fully configured, they go for around 35-40 thousand dollars USD!

Edit: One of the things I've read about this platform is that despite it's seemingly high price, the fact is that for professionals it is a fraction of the cost of using full size helicopters as has been the traditional method. Not only is it cheaper but it is far safer and can get in close to capture details and angles previously unimaginable.

These are really cool. I want one!!.....especially the DJI Speading Wings S1000.

Yeah those quadcopters can get expensive, but witch hobby dont do that.
My friend have the phantom 1.1.1 with a gopro silver camera fixed to the belly of it. no gimbal.
He have just invested in fatshark FPV Googles too, those we should be able to try out NeXT weekend if the weather permit it.

Dunno why my M8 have the camera set to 720P proberly a operator error.

The huge + with the phantom is it is dead simple to fly it, any one can pick one up charge the battery and go fly it.

yeah, i assume the bigger ones have the same control hardware, but no matter how easy it is to fly i will not strap my expensive Dslr below it.

I am missing a PTZ camera for use when flying FPV, just becuz it would be cool to fly to a place you cant reach by foot and then do a Little filming.
but i guess stuff like that will be on the marked soon.

As far as I know, the $37,000 S1000 does not use quite the same hardware controls as even the most expensive model Phantom, although some of the components seem to be related. The s1000 has a multi-function Ground Station with bluetooth, full HD screen (instead of the smartphone holder) and the Lightbridge HD video downlink as well as a whole line of professional components that I don't think are available for the Phantom. I also believe that the high end controllers have much greater range than the hobby level Phantoms.

Been looking at that lightbridge, sadly there is Little contracts on killing ppl here these days πŸ˜›

The phantoms only carry a actioncam, or at best a pocket cam, just enuff to satisfy the hobby user i guess, i have seen quite a fjew good looking videos made with the low budget phantoms.
i have met a fjew on Danish RC sites who have invested in the big solutions, but they allso pay outside the realm of the ordenary hobby enthusiast.

Man i hope i find that job soon, beeing the spittoon of Danish society sux.

Hah! I know what you mean Kamkar!

Yeah, the Phantoms are really nice and one of the top hobbyist platforms but nothing really compares to being able to capture full frame HD video with something in the order of a Canon EOS 5D Mark III on one of these amazing octocopters. Shooting video with DSLRs is transforming professional filmmaking. The other camera that is being used quite a lot on heavy lift octocopters is the Blackmagic Cinema camera (as in the photo below) which can record uncompressed "feature film quality" video directly to a built in SSD with a very small camera that can accept high end lenses and accessories. As far as I know this is what was used at the Olympic games in Sochi. These things make me drool...πŸ˜• http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagiccinemacamera
