Having a strange problem with my new g1w-c dash cam. It works fine when I connect it to the center console cigarette lighter on my 2005 325i. Problem is the cigarette lighter will always stay on even after I take out the keys. Its annoying to turn off the cam every time I turn off my car.
Doing some research I find out that I there is a flashlight port in the glovebox of the 325i that turns on when I start my car, and turns off when I take the key out, which is what I want. BMW used to make a power adapter that plugs into the flashlight port but ebay is the only place to find one now.

I decided to make my own by soldering the flashlight to a female cigarette lighter. Pretty easy. The "flashlight mod" charges my phone and tablet, but it will not power my dash cam. The green indicator light on the g1w-c cigarette adapter is on but the dash cam will not turn on. I thought it might not be getting enough power but I assume that if it can charge my phone, it can power the dash cam.
Can anyone help?
