Hi there.

I have had a E-Prance G1W for almost a year. I had a near miss a few weeks ago so I thought I'd check the footage.

To my shock there were only a few recordings since November 2015.

I tried the micro SD card back in the camera but it instantly turned itself off and it would only turn on if I turned off the ignition and then turned it back on. The camera would show all its information on the screen until I put the card back in. Then it would go off again.

The next time I left the SD card in and turned on the ignition. No information was displayed just the view through the small screen in the road ahead.

I tried a new SD card which worked for a day or two but then started the same problems so I emailed E-Prance and they swiftly replaced the camera.

I received the new camera two days ago, the camera has been working fine until today. Now the same problems.

The camera is hardwired into the fuse board of my car using a 5v supply cable. My wife and Dad's cameras are wired in the exact same way with the exact same Genuine SanDisk, Class 10, 32GB SD cards and theirs have worked perfectly since day one.

Has anyone else had the same problem? With this camera or any others? Or even shed any light on compatibility issues you may think i have?

What about formatting the new card in the camera when I first insert it because I didn't do that the last time.

Situations like this are reported here on a regular basis. Glad to hear your experience isn't the aftermath of an accident.

DashCam memory cards should be checked regularly to ensure that files aren't missing or corrupted. I check mine weekly as a safety measure, like tyre pressure & fluid level checks.

This could also be an issue as Sandisk cards are known to be problematic in some cameras.
Even if other units from the same brand and model work flawlessly in other cameras of the same brand and model. This is also a well known fact.

How long was it since you last checked the footage in the card? Or let me put it in a different way: have you ever checked the footage since you put the card in the camera for the first time?

I just had a memory card failure myself... last recording was 1.5 months ago. Good thing I caught it though, as I rarely check my footage anymore. It didn't even occur to me that these sd cards fail like that over time and frequent writes. I ended up buying a sandisk high endurance for a replacement... hopefully that'll last a while.

I wish dash cams incorporated an sd write check on startup, and give you an audible warning if the sd card fails to write.

Chill out mate.

I've never checked it because I thought in this day and age technology is pretty good.

Just a simple "memory cards and cameras fail often, you should check them once a month or so" would be a more friendly answer.

Also my wife and dads has had no problems. Just mine and it's over two different cameras.

Would the memory card be corrupt from the last use and that's why it stopped working I the new one?

In addition to a SD write check, it would be nice to incorporate a second sd card into a dashcam in the event that an SD does fail, it can auto switch over to the second one.
A little redundancy would be nice for something like that.

Yeh that's also a cool idea.

The G1W is a cheap camera though. I wouldn't expect it on those but the more expensive cameras it should definitely be on there.

Just as I thought. You shouldn't trust technology so much. At least not without informing yourself properly about what you're using.

Memory cards are only prone to fail if you treat them like you did, so if I had to give you any answer, which I didn't have to, it would not be that one.

I had a G1Wc fail and ruin a nearly new 64GB Transcend UHB card 🙁 H2testw, windows, and a Mobius cam couldn't read or format it nor could the replacement G1Wc. And SD cards do exhibit wear from the write cycles. I abuse mine by running my cam 24/7, nobody intended card or cam the be used this way. So far (about 2 weeks ago) H2testw showed the card as good as new which I found amazing after many months of this torture. I'm still going to replace it PDQ, I don't want to take chances. Today is 'car maintenance day' so I'll pull the cards to see what's going on. The second card will be from a week's worth of 24/7 recording on a new G1Wc. Nobody to blame but me if my mad experiment fails, but if it doesn't then the G1Wx will soon be pulled and set aside for use as the front cam of an upcoming 2nd vehicle; I'll be able to trust it then 😉

Cams can be individualistic and what works fine for someone else may not work as well (or at all) in your supposedly identical cam. SanDisk and dasncams don't always play together well, but some have great success with their better/best cards. And some don't. Just the way these things work.

Great reply Phil. Let us know how your experiment turns out.

You'll see it here by tomorrow AM or sooner.

Well so much for that. I think a button got pushed on my cam due to it's unusual mounting so there were only 3 files saved, but all looked good. The screen was still on when I powered it down, but again due to the mounting I couldn't see the red recording light so I'm not sure of what happened. I formatted he card reworked the mounting, and I will check it again in a day or two.

My Mobius was 100% as usual, I love that little cam!
