Hardwire problem

Good evening DCT people,

I've purchased my 0806 in september. Thanks to Nigel's help and his custom bitrate version I've had quite some nice recordings, in a positive and negative way ofcourse.

It is hardwired by a hardwire kit directly onto the battery for full constant power and recordings (and it payed off: someone bumped into my car while I was away. Because of the non-stop recording I could see the license plate of the other driver and my insurance handled the rest).

But the dashcam now starts to behave a bit odd. First my green GPS light stopped working. Then it stopped recording audio even though I didn't touch the camera's up button (only fix was to remove the camera, let it cool down a bit and insert it again. However after a few hours it just stops again). Now the camera doesn't always start automatically so I have to press the power button and the recording button. I've missed quite some footage since begin this week.

I've e-mailed my vendor and I've just got a reply back: he says that since this week he's had mails from multiple people with similar problems using the hardwire kit, even burned out camera's. He now states that the hardwire kit is at fault and he's removed it from his site. He advices not to use the hardwire kit anymore but to solely use the cigarette lighter when I get a replacement camera. This is no option for me since I need that socket in my car for other things and I really don't want to have a cable dangling from behind my mirror.

Are there other persons who have the same problem or anyone who can point me to a hardwire kit which is more reliable and don't burn up my camera?

you're lucky you bought the camera and hardwire kit from the same vendor and he is supporting you

I’ll admit I’m not too genned up on electronics but I’d have thought the fact the mini 0806 has a battery and not a capacitor might be more of an issue than getting 5v DC from the cigarette lighter or from the battery, I have my mini 0806 and mini 0805 get power direct from the 12v DC fuse box and have had no issues, even in Mediterranean temperatures of up to 39c (on some days) but I only have mine on when the car (with headlights on) is running, I don't have them set to be on in parking mode, maybe the 0806 having a battery and not a capacitormight be something to look at

To have a capacitor in a dashcam is a great benefit. That is precisely why I chose to replace mini 0803 & 0806. Will use them as side caneras until they do not work anymore.

Now that I’m understanding more about the benefits of having a capacitor in a DVR I’m surprised there are some DVR’s that are supposed to work in parking mode still have batteries instead of capacitors

Indeed, exactly why I bought locally and in the same language region. Would be a pain to send it back to the US / China.

Would one of these solve your problem?

Thanks for the link, but I'm not really looking on expanding my slots. I'd rather have one decent hardwire kit to tuck away than to install additional things for one device.

Also: I'm not blaming my vendor or Mini for that matter, just wondering if anyone has a hardwire kit on continuous power which works flawless, or at least has less risk of burning out.
Too bad I can't link mine at the moment since it has been taken offline. Will try to take a picture later when I have more time.
If not, I might be looking for another cam that I can trust with non-stop recordings (with battery life detection / shutdown ofcourse). Too bad I can't get the Street Guardian locally.

I ordered my Street Guardians from @niko. I highly recommend him. www.hiniko.com

I used to hardwire my minis with this one. But better spend some more money and get a reliable Street Guardian from @niko. It's worth the money.

I was running mine off the cigarette lighter with no problems. I had a mechanic install the hard wire kit, hooked it up and immediately started having problems. When that cam burned out, I received a replacement, and the moment I plugged the hard wire kit into it, that cam was immediately fried! Waiting on my 3rd camera, and ripped out the hard wire kit. After a little hunting on Google, I found another hard wire kit that looks different than all the other ones advertised. Waiting on that one now.
