Many years ago I paid Deal Extreme $154 for a DVR007

I actually bought it for my ROCKETRY and figured when not flying it I can stick it in the dash. it was and still is the best dash cam I ever bought.

never failed. ZERO lag between segments 10 hours on a 32gb card so good bitrate versus compression and SUPER CLEAN optics and compression.

I have tried DOZENS of dash cams since and not ONE can touch the DVR007 not even close.

I have bought 5 or 6 more DVR007's and every one of them is "fake" not even close to the quality of the original

here is a video from the original

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsEZWynytQs

that's my L2 flight.

anyway. it died (rocket landed a wee too hard one flight I guess)

I want a replacement badly. any suggestions on getting a REAL DVR007. not a gamble but a real honest to goodness source for the "real thing" ?

The most popular seller of the original DVR007 is estore009. There are a number of sellers of the real product as summarized here. These are the ones with black lettering on white background on the top of the video.

that is interesting. I am 99% certain my 007 did NOT have a removable battery. I will have to "dig around" and find it and double check that.

Mine also had no discernible "gap" that I can recall though I could off course have a faulty memory on that part. 4 seconds I would notice. I trust estore009 though I get a bunch of legitimate stuff from me.

I thought I read the newer DVR207GS no longer has a gap between files. (even newer firmware) If so, you might as well get the new model with the better screen and sensor.

is there a thread for this new camera here? some raw from the camera video samples?

the video links in the listed page don't work show up as black boxes nothing in them.

Here's the thread for the newer DVR-207GS (it's only a few weeks old, just released)
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1094

There are no videos listed as of yet. Here is one on youtube, but the guy is driving towards the sun and has the audio muted. (worst demo ever)

I just ordered mine today, it will take awhile to arrive since it's slow boat from China.

I plan on giving a review and uploading videos asap. Mine should be more exciting like a trip across the golden gate bridge etc.

EDIT: I may have been mistaken, the DVR-207 HAS 2 second gaps, and I found a post that says the DVR-207GS has gaps too, but I asked them to confirm. It's not a deal breaker, but no fun either way.

EDIT 2: oh here we go, to keep gaps away.......

"Make sure motion detection is off otherwise the camera will generate gaps between clips."
Hmmm even on a nice fast class 10 card? It would be nice to leave motion detection on.
Hmmm maybe they mean gaps as in no motion, no recording? I think their are two types of gaps scenarios here possibly. (someone please clarify)

also...

"Note that a new model has been released, called the DVR-207. It is quite similar to the DVR-027 but comes with newer firmware and no gaps between files."
"You may also want to consider the newer DVR-207. This dash cam is nearly identical but with some minor improvements such as the elimination of the gaps between files."

They must have said that before they realized that turning on motion detection created gaps.

Note that with motion detection off, the DVR-207 has no gaps between files as verified by many users here. The DVR-027 generally had gaps between files regardless of setting. The DVR-207GS, likely does not have gaps between files since it seems to be just the DVR-207 with a G-sensor but this hasn't been confirmed yet.

Also note that the DVR-007 does not have a replaceable battery like the DVR-027, DVR-207 and DVR-207GS. I am surprised that a DVR-007 from a few years ago had no gaps between files. Maybe you got very lucky because this has been a complaint for a very long time.

I don't know what's was expecting when I clicked the youtube link, but holy hell. Awesome recording/launch!

Did you find much grain on your original 007? It looked pretty good on the video,

My DVR-207GS has decent picture, it is quite grainy. It's perfectly suitable for my needs as a cheap dashcam however.

No the video was CRYSTAL clear. better video than some of my camcorders!! I wish I had bought more but at the time they were hella expensive at $154 a pop!

by the time I killed that one (that same week I recorded that video) they were no longer available from dx and everyone I have ordered since has been a fake.

I want more of "THAT" camera the 007 not the 027 or 207 at least till I see some sample videos.

the 007 I had simply recorded fantastic video. also recorded excellent night time video! no gaps (at least not enough for me to notice) and GOOD quality versus compression (fantastic clear video 10 hours on 32gigs)

10 hours to me is the real minimum. less than that and I chance over writing stuff or having to keep a spare card handy and forgetting about it (I drive 40,000 miles a year so 10 hours in the car is NOT much.) plus any less than that and file sizes per minute start to get nuts.

So are you for real? The older 007 had clearer video then the 207? Did it look better than the 207GS youtube link above I posted?
I searched youtube for DVR-007 and the demo videos don't seem any better than the DVR-207/DRV-207GS to me http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=DVR-007

I'm staring to doubt I'll like the quality of my 207GS when it arrives next week'ish. I'm going to have to be extra critical after this guys 207GS review:
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1094&p=13528#p13427

I might need to fork out the extra $ for the DR500
http://dashcamtalk.com/blackvue-dr500gw-hd/

Quality looks outstanding, and iPhone/Android WiFi app is pretty cool.

I was hoping to get a good balance price/performance with the 207GS though. I'm starting to think I want to use my camera for more then security though. I'd like to use it for demos while touring around friends in San Francisco etc.

No I think I am for fiction since I never stated that.

the 007 is a KNOWN VALUE to me. or did you miss where I clearly stated until I see samples from the 027 and 207

I have no CLUE if the 007 was better or not. I would have to SEE good video samples from the other 2 to make that opinion.

what I do know (just watch my video above) is that the video from the 007 is spectacular. of the well over a dozen dash cams I have purchased and tried since them including 1080p models none come EVEN CLOSE to the quality in the 007 I had on that rocket. Just look for yourself.

I would have to GET a 027 or 207 to decide on those. I can't afford them. so I would rather find a true original 007 since I know with 100% certainty it has spectacular quality and meets 100% of my needs.

hence why I ask :)

Ah ok, I missed your original youtube link somehow! (I think I got threads mixed up whoops) Ok I watched it. The video of a rocket launch is hard to compare to a video of a car driving around. With the rocket launch the ground is so far away, you can't really make out detail good or bad. I did look at the edges of the blue rocket though. You'll notice the same exact quantization video compression blocks the 207 has. The reason the middle parts of the blue area of the rocket is block free, is because it 'doesn't change at all. (it's fixed) I'd have to say the 207GS is "as good" as theold 007 now that I saw the video link you posted, and the other 007 youtube demos. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=DVR-007

So my opinion based on what I see, is the older 007 is not superior. I'd go with the DVR-207GS. http://r.ebay.com/UNtp0B

For me, I'm not sure I want to live with the quantization blocky video of either one at this point. It's not terrible, and perfect for security monitoring, but might not be good enough for actual hobby footage to showcase on youtube.

is there any GOOD raw daylight outdoor sample videos from the 207GS ?

another downer to the 207 is its "bigger and less aero" but I can work around that maybe even remove those LED's and streamline the front a bit better :)

the $70 price tag is palatable. but need to see video samples.

do you know of better camera's in the sub $100 range? ie better video quality?

Since the GS is so new, I only see two uploaded to youtube videos so far
