Hi everyone, new member here. I have a brand new Viofo A229 Pro Dual and I'm really struggling with it! I'm a 76 year old senior citizen, I try to do the best I can with technical equipment but....

I have two main problems, firstly I have a major issue with rear screen reflections, when the sun shines on the back window of my car the view is almost obliterated. The car is a Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV with a tinted rear screen that has a very steep angle. I've ordered a CPL filter for the rear camera so hope that helps. Secondly when I connect the front camera via the short data cable supplied in the box to my Windows 11 PC and try to drag and drop videos into Viofo Player I get a no entry sign next to the video and nothing happens when I drop the video. I can however drag and drop into VLC fine but I lose the GPS information. I have been using a Sandisk Extreme Go 128gb card which may not be suitable. So I have ordered a Sandisk Endurance 128 gb which is arriving today. I thought that using the WiFi station mode may be an answer but the technicalities of that are beyond my limit! I got to the end of the Viofo instructions and found no IP address on the camera screen so I knew that was wrong. I decided to give up on that go back. However I thought I'd caused a major issue as I couldn't re-connect to the camera, eventually I managed but stopped all further tampering! I had a Nextbase 322 before that caused no end of connection issues so went for a Viofo. I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right choice!

Can you remove the SD Card from the camera, and insert it in your computer?
If that’s too difficult it might be easier to slide the camera off the GPS Mount, and then remove the SD Card.
Slide the camera to the right to remove it from the GPS mount.

Currently there are only two "VIOFO Recommended" SD Cards;
1.) VIOFO Brand
2.) SanDisk MAX Endurance, (see attached photo)

Hello Chuck and thank you for your advice on the SD card. Yes I have ordered the Max Endurance.
I tried to remove the SD card and use a card reader but the reader is not recognized on my pc so resorted to plugging in the camera.

Hello Chuck I have decided to return the dash cam for a refund and look for a simpler set up that hopefully works.

That was actually my first thought.
A229 Pro has “slow” Wi-Fi speed for video download transfers.
A329S got upgraded to Wi-Fi 6, and its 3x times faster.
I was also going to recommend the waterproof rear camera to avoid yout rear window glare issue.

If the videos can be played in VLC player, then it should be fine to be played back in VIOFO player. You may check if you have given VIOFO player full permission to access the files on your PC.

Viofo A229 Pro Dual and I'm really struggling with it!

The A229 Pro was my regular dashcam for a while.

To use the Viofo program to watch all the cameras you need to select the amount of cameras you have.

It is possible to watch video directly from the main unit with just the A2229Pro plugged in to your computer.

You don't have to drag files in.

Have a look at this video i made a while ago and hopefully it will help.

In regards to the rear window I had to place a non reflective material over the parcel shelf to stop the light reflecting from it.
doing that help a lot. The CPL filter may help further.

Hello Nala, did you end up buying a new system already, or would you like a hand choosing one?

Hi BlackboxMyCar and thank you for your offer. I have returned the Viofo for a refund which I have already been given. I love Amazon UK! I am looking for a replacement for my Nextbase 322GW. I have been looking at the Kenwood front and rear combo. The rear is exterior so will get round the reflection problem. I'm looking at 2k front and HD rear. The Kenwood hardware seems to get mostly good reviews but the app seems to get shocking reviews. Some people are saying they wished they had never bought Kenwood due to app connection issues. What do you think? Alan.

We've never heard of the Kenwood system, since we mainly deal within Canada and the US, so it sounds like that might be more of a UK market thing. However, we'd like to take a look and see if there's anything similar we might be able to recommend with a good user experience. Would you mind sharing a link?

This links to the Kenwood online shop. Doing some research it seems the hardware is good, on par with Nextbase but as is so often the case poor software. https://kenwoodshop.co.uk/

I was also interested in the Road Angel Guardian 2k.https://roadangelgroup.com/products/new-road-angel-halo-guardian-2k-dual-dash-cam-with-3-2-screen-parking-mode-quick-release-mounting?variant=52364233507154

What do you think about the Vantrue E1 Pro Mini for the front with CPL filter and the Vantrue E1 Lite for the rear if a CPL filter is available? The software reviews seem favorable and the hardware looks good too!

I have tried sending a link but it's awaiting moderator approval.

You made the right choice.
But after the first unsuccessful attempt to view the video, you immediately decided to replace the dash cam. 😱
I have returned the Viofo for a refund which I have already been given.
You could spend ages going through models from different manufacturers without ever setting on anything...

Although, this looks more like a user issue...🤔

We wouldn't recommend complicating things with what is essentially two separate setups in one vehicle. User experience is comparable to VIOFO based on our experience, with the same manual Wi-Fi based connection process.

If ease of connection is a priority, we'd recommend something with Bluetooth-based seamless pairing, where everything is done within the mobile app and no manual connection or password entry is required. You just have to pair the dash cam with your device (as you would with anything Bluetooth) and it will either connect automatically upon launching the app or with a simple tap of a button afterwards. Most of BlackVue's current lineup and all current Thinkware models offer this in some way.
