How to remove adhesive residue?

The adhesive on my a129 pro in the rear started to peel off recently but when I removed it I noticed a lot of black gunk stuck to the screen that really want to come off. Anyone know hot to get rid of this?
 
Goo Gone and Goof Off are good adhesive removers. Not sure if they are available in the UK.
 
I've heard that WD40 is also good on the most stubborn residue that white spirit and meths doesn't get at.
 
If Goo Gone and Goof Off are not available in the UK, Acetone (aka Nail Polish Remover) is a good alternative and is widely available anywhere at low cost. (our local "Dollar Store" sells it.) Acetone is one of the ingredients in the original Goo Gone and Goof Off.

Recently, I came across two ancient bottles of cigarette lighter fluid in the back of a storage closet. I have no use for the stuff and wondered how best to dispose of them. Then I remembered that lighter fluid is made from naptha which is an excellent solvent and is often also used as an ingredient in various Goo Gone and Goof Off type products. I just used some of the lighter fluid the other day to get the sticky label residue off of a glass jar I want to repurpose. Worked great!
 
For reference, when putting new foam surrounds on speakers with paper pulp cones, the old adhesive is typically removed with MEK or methyl ethyl ketone. It doesnt damage the paper pulp cone but removes old adhesive instantly. Its very toxic stuff be careful.

Acetone is also great for super glue. If you use super glue frequently its a good idea to keep nail polish remover around for safety reasons.
 
To remove any stickers, I first heat them with hair dryer and then gently pull off. If there is any residue left over, I use a small piece of duct tape to pull it off. I try to avoid the solvents on plastics, glass is usually fine.

You're right. You have to be very careful about which solvents you apply to plastics. Some solvents like acetone will melt plastics but other ones can be ok depending on the material.
 
Another agree. I had some house plastic spring clips. Decided to move them and after removal cleaned the residue off with white spirit and they partially melted
