My GS1000 stopped powering on by itself after about 2 years of use. It worked, but I had to hit the power button to get it going and didn't power down gracefully (it died immediately when i turned off the car) anymore.

I cracked it open, found the 612338 battery doing an impression of a jiffy pop tin. It had puffed up quite a bit!

I replaced it with a 522040 battery ($5 from ebay). The capacity is a bit less (320mAh vs 500mAh), but I don't care about that. It works great and was cheap.

The new battery is a bit longer than the original, so it overlaps the lens mounting screw a bit. I discarded the silly led lamps, which created some room inside. I'm not sure if that was necessary, but I wanted the tiny screws for another project :)
